Stock RoadKing Bars... Just not working for me... HELP, Please!!

I installed the Heritage style handle bars (Part# 56902-08) on my 08 FLHR last year. They fit like a champ with no mods and I have ABS & of course TBW. I don't see why they wouldn't fit the 09 FLHR? Something to look into if I were you.

Just looked on the HD website and they list the Heritage style handle bars, Part# 56902-08 for the 09 FLHR. Your dealer dealer is mis informed. Remember, no extra cable needed for brakes, TBW or ABS equipped bikes. Good luck!

as you are finding out - someone else suggestion bars for you - its very hit and miss - we all have different likes and dislikes. What seat you are using can make a very big difference - To fit YOU to the bike, I truley believe its a seat/bar combo - making one fit the other is not the way to do it... try and get a seat and bar set up... Meaning get a set that fits YOU and maybe will move you closer then and at the same time if possible, find a bar that will work. I am 5'6" and I ended up going to Hollister, Corbin and got a seat made to fit ME - I also had installed the bars I wanted - now I fit like a glove.
If you like the wild1 bars - take a look at the 517's - do a seach here and you will learn a lot - some of us Love the 517's others don't. again,,, we are all different. I could be your same size and LOVE my set up - you could sit on it and say - Na, waste of money..
have you tried the search button - questions on bars has really been beat to death..

good luck.. your quest will cost you $$$$$$$$$ and to get it right the very first time, lol , good luck. most of us have several sets of bars in our garage....

Think I will try the HD 56902-08 Heritage Bars. It's sounds like it's a cheap fix that just MIGHT work.... Let's hope!!! I would prefer these: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448766876&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302287417&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302287417&bmUID=1283724231467&bmLocale=en_US but I'm sure all new wires and cables will be needed here...

Thanks for all your feedback!!

Just went back and re-read your post - Looks like you are going to pay $$$$$$$$$$$ to have someone else "try" a set up for you...

Unless you are a real 'nothing' with a wrench - this is a job You can do... Since you are not going internal wiring - its a simple job, most anyone can do.

IF you still want the dealer to do the swap... Get the job in writing and know exactly how much its going to cost FIRST - at $80+ an hour for labor - it can mount up fast...

If you can not sit back into that stock seat and give your lower back some support and reach the stock bars - most likley the other bars won't help all that much...

Sit on your bike, settle into the seat, allow you lower back to also settel in,,, now reach your arms out with a slight bend - how far away are your hands from the grips..

Hey, your a Fire fighter - I know you can figure things out... buy a manual and do it your self....

I am a retired FF (35 years) I have faith in you

Thanks, for the confidence. I was thinking if they needed to solder wires and make things longer that would be out of my scope. If it's all plug and play then yes, a manual and my shop tools should do the trick.

I have changed bars on my Fat Boy, Wide Glide, EG and RG everything from Wild1 513,575,517 and Flanders and WG on my RG... Never had to do any cutting - stock wires always worked... with the 517's, Ya I had to change the clutch cable... but all this work you can do and you will feel real good after the work is done and you will save that HIGH HD labor $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$..

very "can do" job, esp if you are NOT going internal wiring...

Lots of people here can and will help you out..

DO IT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Do any of you that have the "heritage style" bars (56902-08) have any photos of them on your bike? I've read a few threads on the web and here that say they don't look all that good on the King. Can't figure out how they wouldn't look good on the King but would LOVE to see some photos of them on. Also do you that are using them have them more upright like a mini ape or do you have then leaning back? I'm sure it all different depending on the reach. I sat on a Heritage and felt they were like mini apes and found them VERY comfortable and looked good. Now I understand that's a softail though so it's not apples to apples with the same bars.

Thanks!

I just installed the Reduced Reach Bars on my 09 RK. Wired internally, no need for any other parts. Everything fits. No need for wiring extension, tbw
sensor, or clutch/brake lines. I replaced the grips at the same time so I didn't have to deal with the glued on left grip. So this is where the fun begins.... I believe some experience with Deutsch connectors would be very helpfull. It would be very easy for someone to damage the terminal locks without some understanding of how they work. Secondly, pulling the wiring through the bars takes some patience and forthought.

I'm 5' 9" with a 30" inseam and these bars ( part # 56166-08 ) have made a huge difference. I like them a lot.

Just a small warning, Inspect whatever you choose before they are installed. The first set of bars I purchased had deep scratches that
would be visable after installed ( damage in areas that are not covered by controls etc...). Carefully inspect the bars you purchase.

The Reduced Reach bars are chromed, the Heritage bars are polished stainless steel if finnish is important.
