Back in Septeraber I fell while running and landed straight on my chin. I was taken to the hospital where they gave me 5 stitches to close it up. About a week later I went back to them and had the stitches removed.

However, a few weeks after they were removed I noticed there was one still there as part of the thread was visible under my chin. I was going to go back to get them to remove it but noticed that after a couple days of messing with it that it was no longer there.

But I think there is still a stitch on the top of my chin (where the cut was). From what I can tell that I can wiggle it at this point. I have also still been having pain in my chin now and again or hurts to touch it in that area. I haven't tried pulling it out.

Is this safe? Would it be okay for me to go ahead and either to pull it out or do I need to go see a Dr about it? I don't have medical insurance so I'm really trying to avoid the latter but at the same time I don't want something stuck in me that could cause me harm.

Any advice would be helpful to give me an idea on what to do about it.

I suppose a person could call the professional to ask this question, but the internet explains that a person could accidently cause reopening or infection by pulling out their own.

Since this is now 3 months after your injury, I don't think you'll reopen the wound. Try taking a pair of tweezers and gently tugging on it to see if it will come out. If it doesn't come fairly easily, then just go to the ER or a walk in clinic or something and ask to have it removed.

cut it with a razor blade, then pull it out with tweesers.

Wipe the area with antiseptic or alcohol before and after

I had a stitch that was left in my thurab that the nurse missed in removing the other stitches. I didn't see it but my thurab was throbbing. A few weeks later I could see the blue of the stitch coming up to the surface. I wasn't going to dig it out so I went back to the doctor. He sprayed with it lidocaine first and had to dig it out. He offered to restitch it but I declined and asked for a butterfly type bandaid. I don't think there was any charge. Believe, me that pain was gone immediately, it felt so good to get it out of there.

Thanks for giving me some direction on what to do. I think I'll try to get it myself and if not go back to where I got them first put in at.

Thanks again!
