For about 10 days now I have had really painful stinging on the sides of both my breast. I thought I pulled a muscle in my exercise class. I went to the doctor today and she told me it was not my muscle and that it was a fibrous breast problem. I have been told in the past that I Have lumpy breast but they never hurt me. I have to mention that I just lost 70 pounds. My breast are still a D, they use to be huge so they are exstremely saggy. They are the most painful when I take my bra off and let them hang. I have to hold them up or The sharp stinging pain starts in and it is bad! Has anyone had this before? I am starting the process of getting off coffee tomorrow. I was going to anyways this summer. Does anyone have any ideas for pain relief that is some what natural. I am not a freak about taking meds. I can't take meds for ever. Thank you for the help!

My mom used to have fibrous breasts. What she found that helped her the most...and helped with fibroids, was to cut out the caffeine. this includes chocolate, tea, coffee....

The pain may be because your muscles are being stretched as your breasts droop. You can avoid this by wearing a bra for sleeping. They look like sports bras...this might help you.....have you considered breast reduction?

tjmoore: yes, this is fibrocystic breast disease - or lumpy breasts. I was always bothered by it right before I'd get my period. Caffeine does make it worse. I did have to wear a sports bra a while ago to help keep the girls from jiggling too much. I don't seem to be bothered by them now since I'm not getting periods anymore. There's really not a whole lot you can do about them. It's something you just have to live with.

Thank you both for the great information.

yes, I have considered a breast reduction/lift. The cost is substantial. Would that interfear with the fibrous tissue though?

Also, I am very active and love to do TKB. The last few classes I was in so much pain from all the jumping. I wear a sports bra from target and a regular bra underneith that. I was wondering if I need a better sports bra.

one last thing, I am midcycle and just ovulated. Is that normal? everyone I read about has more pain 10 days prior to period. Thanks again for the help.

You can get pain because of ovulation. \And that's about the right time. I wouldn't worry about it. If it is regular for you-then it is your "normal."

I onlly knew every now again when I ovulated, but when I did it would give me pain. Sometimes sharp, sometimes just an achey type. There was never a normal pattern to it....you just never know.

I would look for either a really firm iron maiden type of bra-I think Playtex still make them-for working out. That might give you the needed support that you need... good luck!

If your doctor deems it a medical necessity, your insurance should pay for the breast reduction. You might check with him/her to see if you would qualify.

And yes, getting off the caffeine will help...it did for me.

There has been not pattern because this is the first time anything like this has happened to me. I get tender in my breast sure, even a little bit of pain. As I think about it more and feel it more, Gosh it sure feels like a pulled muscle. The most painful part is by the armpit, but down about 3 inches. so on the side of my breast, but not actually on my breast. Does this make sence? I do TKB class where there is a lot of jumping. It does seem this last 5 pounds I lost mad my breat droop even more. I am completely flat until you get to my DD's hang down right above my belly button. I do have pain in my breast as well, but this is nothing compared to the pain on have on my side. so now I am confused on how to treat this. cold or hot, do I wrap it or not. just a side note. before I went to my doctor, I did the TKB class after my side started to hurt, not sure it was from that. It totally triggered the pain. Nothing else triggered it like that class did. I am not doing the class right now. :-( waiting for it to heal if it is indeed from that class.

I wanted to give you an update on my condition. went to ER because the pain was so bad. They told me it is not muscle and that I have shingles. yep, that is right! I had been around someone with shingles recently. They told me it is contagious. They put me on antiviral meds and I am slowly getting better. still in pain, but better. Also, mild flu like symptoms started. Hopfully I caught this in time and I don't get the rash. :-(
