Still want that show to come back?

I know a lot of people are really happy to see shows like Home Movies and Futurama to be resurrected from cable hell, but is that really such a good thing? Just look at Family Guy. The main reason I believe this show was gotten worse is because of many of the writers from the first few seasons that made some of the best episodes did not return for Family Guy Season 4-6. Most of the episodes have been written by Alex Bornstien and lots of unknown others who wrote formulaic episodes.

Let me put it this way. Would you really like to see new episodes of Justice League if they were written by Tim Daily? I'm just saying I'd rather not have a show come back than to have a show come back with a huge change in staff.

I wouldn't like a huge change of staff either. But as long as the creator, producers, excuetive producers,& head writer are still there, then I'm okay with it.

Despite all the faults of Family Guy's return, I'm still happy to see it back. As a half sitcom half sketch show, I don't need to see a strong central story to enjoy the various gags they come up with.

From what I heard on another thread, the first Futurama DTV was hilarious.

It all depends on the situation.

Well, that's the thing. Futurama is a stronger, depper show than Family Guy (and the Simpsons, and KOTH). There's quite a lot you can do with a scifi plot that you can't do with a standard sitcom type plot.

I think they're doing it safely with DTV's (though, for my money, they should theatrically release them in small theaters in college towns. The first one was too good for a DTV, I feel). I meank, how many did they plan? Like 4 or 5? You can have longer plots, and have only a limited amount of stories to write, so there's no exhausting the sources.

But then of course, I feel Seth et al are busier with American Dad, anyway. That's pretty much why Family Guy seems pieced together (with really random cut scenes) and AD seems more planned out.

Futurama's return has actually been pretty good so far. Bender's Big Score's plot was either illogical or utterly mind-boggling even by Futurama's standards (hopefully we get some sort of explanation for the timecode in the future movies), but it was still funny, well-written, and had some interesting character development.

I can't pass judgement on it until I see it.

Even though Family Guy is different from the original seasons of the show, it's still something I would watch if it's on-- new, old, whatever. When I had CN, I would watch Futurama reruns no matter what, so I think it would have to be pretty unbearable for me to not watch the new show.

Bender's Big Score wasn't the best of the series, but it was a great return for Futurama. I like it more each time I see it.
I think the reason it was so strong, was because it wasn't pandering to a mainstream audience for larger appeal. The movie had a lot of callbacks and references; you could tell they were really working to please the fans of the show, and perhaps that's why it retained the Futurama "spirit".

Honestly I'd still like Invader Zim to get finished. I don't expect it to go a whole another season but I'd like the episodes pitched to get made. They had many of the scripts finalized and ready to send over to animation but they got pulled before they could make them. I just know there were some good eps pitched a a possible Zim's death ep that would make an ending for the show.

There arn't very many other shows that I could see coming back on air because they were given such good final ep.s but I would like to see some shows just being plaied a re-runs. Give them a good two year run (like Courage has gotten) and then put them away for a while and bring them back, but not ignore that they were once very good shows.

I'm extremely happy with Futurama's return so far....I loved Bender's Big Score {I must have watched it at least 20 times by now},and feel that the writing's just as strong as it was in earlier seasons {I enjoyed all the callbacks to stuff that happened in the series}...

Family Guy's rather hit-or-miss for me,but then it always was, even in the earlier seasons....Some episodes are really funny, while others I don't laugh at all {The last episode I really enjoyed was the Star Wars parody}....

What about reviving:
Tiny Toon Adventures
Animaniacs
Pinky and the Brain
Sonic the Hedgehog Sat AM
Loonatics Unleashed
The P.J.'s
Gary the Rat
Stripperella

And for a Rugrats revival, Tommy is grown up to adulthood and married to Lil and have their own 1 year old son. Even adult Phil, adult Chuckie, adult Angelica, adult Suzy, and adult Dill make frequent apperances as well as Chuckie's 2 year old daughter and Suzy's baby twin brothers. Even Mr. and Mrs. Pickles appear occassionally but now are senior aged.

No offense meant to you, but yuck! That sounds like an even worse idea than All Grown Up was.

Anyways, I may be mistaken, but I don't think that the point of this thread is to pitch your own cheesy fanfic ideas. Rather, I believe the point is to answer which shows (if any) do you think should be revived after their cancellation. It's about reviving, not revamping.

Let's see....

Only if they could guarantee quality work. Though I don't see that happening; Spielberg and WB haven't collaborated since Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain.

Same deal. If it were going to suck, they needn't bother.

That was only canceled last year, dude. That wouldn't be a revival, just a 3rd season. But no, I don't need to see anymore of that.

Hmm. No, no and no.

Shell, no! I'll say this again: no one wants to see the Rugrats as adults. Make adults out of them, and they're not the Rugrats anymore. An idea like that would never fly on Nickelodeon, the KIDS' network.

However, as was pointed out, this thread isn't for suggesting revival ideas, it's about whether or not shows should be revived after their cancellation, for some shows that do so experience a noticeable slackening in quality after being resurrected.
