I am 20 1/2 years old and have mild to bad acne, depending on what day it is, since I was 14 years old. I wake up in the morning and my skin is really oily and I have like 9 huge zits scattered around my face. i wash my face and it instantly becomes very dry and brittle but then later that day becomes very oily again. This has been going on for 6 1/2 years. I ****ing cant have a life like this. My diet is very strict but that only controls it down to 9. If i ate more junk food my face is worst. I drink around 68 ounches of water a day. My doctor wont prescribe me accutane because my face is only bad some days. BUT WHEN THEY are bad i dont want to do anything but stay inside until my face clears up again. I CANT WORK, GO TO SCHOOL, or have a normal social LIFE LIKE THIS. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. DOXYCLINE, REtina, benzaclin, etc. nothing helps prevent this breakout i have once a week. im a whole different person each week. if miss washing my face once my face will completely break out including my neck. so there goes partying, camping, etc. i have to use some kind of cream at night to dry out my pimples to dry it out or it will spread. right now my acne is at its worst that it has been in a long time. its so ****ing gay and im just sick of it. i would pay anything to cure acne.

Have you considered it may be caused by a particular food? I've cut out peanuts and while I still have mild acne, I no longer get painful cysts.
And I feel your pain. I'm 27 and have had acne for 14 years. The best thing for me has been the pill, benzoyl peroxide, very gentle cleansers and mineral foundation, but I'm assuming your a guy or you would have tried these things (i.e. the pill and mineral foundation).
Look up what fooRAB are known to exacerbate acne in some people (I only know of peanuts and oranges) and see if it makes a difference for you.

I'm 27 too, and I guess I'm lucky in a way that my acne didn't start until I was 18 (!) but then again - here I am trying to be an adult in the work-world and I feel like no one can take me seriously when I have the skin of a 13-yr-old in puberty!!
I feel your pain - my skin is incredibly oily, and yet when I wash my face it gets all dry and flaky and tight to the point that it hurts to open my mouth very much no matter how gentle or strong a soap I use...then of course a bit later it's slick and super shiny again. I am convinced that it's got something to do with the chlorine in tap water drying my skin out and then my skin trying to make up for it by overproducing oil. I mean, I inherited my mom's skin which means I will always be oily, but this is ridiculous!
One thing I have found that has helped a little is using those Pond's "Clean Sweep" cleansing & makeup removing towelettes in the morning instead of washing my face with soap/cleanser & water. They are pre-moistened and you don't have to rinse them off, yet they take off the oil that has accumulated overnight...and my skin seems to be slightly (only slightly, but anything helps!!) less oily now that I'm not stripping it so much. They are also GREAT for traveling or stowing in the car or something when going camping or anything else - a little easier for me since I can carry them in my purse, but still - it'd be easy enough to stick one in a plastic ziplock bag and take it with you so that you didn't have to avoid a party or something but could still clean your face.
My mom is all into aromatherapy and using essential oils, and I figured what the heck, I'll try some of her stuff and see what happens - honestly it can't get that much worse! I'm still getting pimples and have awful scars but she insists that already my old scars are fading....we'll see. If I find anything that works, I will definitely be posting it here!

i'm sorry you have to deal with this- i used to have acne really bad and I know how bad it sucks. Two things to try if you haven't already- Proactive and Clean and Clear Persa-Gel treatment (this is really cheap) most drug stores have it and it really works well- I tried many things but this worked for me. Also, try washing your face with soap that is cleansing but moisturizing also, such as Dove. When your face gets dry it senRAB a message to produce more oil which then leaRAB to breakouts- so if you keep your face clean, but also moisturized it will help alot. Give it a try and let me know if it helps. Take care! Oh one more thing in the case of the acne you get on your neck , there are body washes specially formulated to help decrease acne and they really do work good luck

acneruinslives,

I feel your pain buddy. Just know, you are NOT the only one experiencing this so don't worry, you're not alone. One thing that immediately comes to my mind is, why won't your Dr. perscribe you Accutane? Coming from a former Accutane user, it really isn't that bad. Yes, you have to get your blood checked every month, your lips become unbelievably dry, and you experience more mood swings then normal, but it's all worth it in the end. I was on Accutane for at least 6 months, and it really did miracles for me. It took a long time for me to notice a difference but that was because I was on such a low dose. My dermatologist then started increasing my dose each month and from then on, my skin was very clear. (Just a quick story...) I remeraber the very last day I was on Accutane, I washed my face and I was in awe. I couldn't believe how smooth my skin was. I was always used to running my hanRAB over bumpy skin and now, smooth as a baby's bottom. Anyways, the last thing I'd like to suggest to you is...ask your Dr. for a referral to a dermatologist. If he insists on not doing that for you, then seriously, get a different doctor, he's not helping your personal neeRAB. Once you have a referral to a derm, mention you would like to go on Accutane as it is almost a "last resort" type thing since you have tried SO many other products (all of which never worked for you).

Finally, good luck. I know it's not easy and believe me, it seems like it gets worse before it ever gets better, but once your in the right hanRAB with your Dr. situation, you'll be fine.

Look for "Thankyoustan," Microdermabrasion cloth on ****...Bruunhause Acne Gel...and Acnexus Acne Scrub. These three things have revitalized my skin. My acne is doing much better lately. It's been about 6 weeks using Bruunhause Acne Gel for me and it's done wonders. The scrub is working well and the cloth has started diminishing my scars.

Look into those products. I'm on doxy as well and that helped me clear up from much worse than what you have described, but it will do nothing for the redness/scarring unlike the three products I've listed.
