Still receiving data messages while on phone using EDGE

Today was my 1st time using wifi on my phone. And I discovered when I'm on wifi I can still send and receive BBM messages, as well as surf the internet. And I made a couple calls along the way.

Well when I switched my 'Mobile Network' settings back to what I think was originally 'Mobile Network Preferred' I continued to receive BBM, and Emails.

I thought this was pretty cool. Just letting ya know. I'm on T-Mobile btw.

Before I would have to wait to get on the phone before I received any data type messages.

ok.... umm isnt that what it is supposed to do?

WiFi = data
UMA = phone calls (VoIP)
EDGE = data
GSM = phone calls

WiFi = EDGE
UMA = GSM

does that help?

I can't do that while I on the phone. I have to hang up first before I can get email etc. I use to subscribe to a caller I'd service but cancelled it as I had to miss the call while the phone looked up who called me via the web. I can do that my ownself. I'm with sprint on the 8330 and as soon as I hit send to receive a call no text usually no data just voice.

Depends on the carrier... Not all carriers can brovide blackberry services over wifi... Tmobile can...

That's why he's able to still receive his messages while in a call...

I thought I read something awhile back that some carriers like mine just decide to block data while on call to save bandwith or something.
