Still going to the cinema?

What annoys me are the bloody lights in the ceiling that seem to stay on throughout. I'm sure it used to be in complete darkness. Also, if its in HD, how come there are lines and crackles like watching a video?
 
Yeah I know what you mean about the Orange adverts as they are ok the first time you see but after a few months of seeing the same orange advert you do get sick of it!
 
The lines and crackles are due to the fact that the film has been played numerous times and it wears out after a while. the big black blob that you see in the corner of the screen is when the film changes reels. If you watch Fight Club and/or the making of Grindhouse it explains everything in more detail.

You don't get any of what you described at a digital screening. It's strange that we've not gone completely digital over here in the UK, i believe that in the US most cinemas are digital cinemas.

i love going to the cinema...you're never going to get the same experience at home watching a film on the tv. it annoys me how expensive it is but i just think its great social opportunity. plus you get to see films before they're available on dvd.
 
Health and safety would make everyone take a break every hour.
You would have to stand outside for 10 minutes before returning for part two.

They could stamp your hand like the clubs do :)

No I've not been in ages, I do miss the experience some times. So in order to recreate it I get the missus to chat at length on her mobile to her nan, invite a few of the local chavs in to throw popcorn around and smoke at the back of my front room and I've even trained the cat to walk in front of the screen right at all the good points in a film. Oh and just for good measure I buy all my snacks at the supermarket (using the most bored till operative possible) and then flush all my change down the drain to get that real value for money experience you get at the kiosk.

I think I've seen more films through DVD postal-rentals (local rental options are p**s poor) in 3 months than I have in the past year. Yes the screen is smaller but I can watch it when i want to, pause if I need to, I can turn off all the phones and not be interupted, I don't have to complain about other viewers ruining my experience and best of all if I don't enjoy it I can turn it off and not feel like I've wasted too much money, time and effort by seeing a poor film.
 
Lately i've been going every week with a friend of mine, we use the Orange Wednesdays ticket thing, and considering that we're students it only costs us
 
kind of sums it up really. The cinema is the best place to see films IMO, but the whole experience has definitely got worse. I wish the staff would look in on the screenings to see if there were any hooligans and to keep the chatter down.

I feel quite sad that I've not missed the cinema lately, but my recent experiences are in line with your comments above.
 
Thats why I go to early screenings to avoid all that. I went to see Run Fatboy Run yesterday at 4pm and there was only 6 people in the cinema so I could enjoy the film in peace and quiet!
 
Some cinemas leave the lights on and some don't. The Corner House in the centre of Nottingham leaves them on and I hate it. The Showcase in the outskirts turns them off, and that's part of why I prefer it. (It's also a bit closer to me, and has easier parking.)

I've not used it so much recently, mainly because the films haven't appealed or are on at silly times.
 
The best way to see a film is on 'the big screen', I see about 3 films a week at the cinema, as I used and abuse my Unlimited card.

In the last 12 months I had seen just over 120 different films, and can only think of 1 or 2 films where any minor problems were had. Watching the films there gives me a better idea whether I will buy it on DVD, hence my DVD colection has become more selective in the last 12 months also.
 
I remember seing Lord of the Rings at the cinema and thinking that it was the worst film I had ever seen.:yawn:
Then I was made to watch it on DVD and thoroughly enjoyed it.:D
The last film I saw at the cinema was when I took my lad to see TMNT.
I think that these days films come out too quick on DVD so there is not much point in going to the cinema.(although there are some films that you just have to see now and cannot wait)
Also with multi region DVD players its even better with some releases.
Region 1 Transformers is out on DVD in 9 days and Die Hard 4.0 is out over here on the 29th of this month. It wasn't that long ago when my sister went to the cinema to see it.
 
I do. Sitting 12ft away from a 103" screen just about fills your vision in the same manner that going to the flicks does. Only I do it in comfort, with very high quality sound, and oik free. There's absolutely and utterly no comparison.
