I have a Stihl BR 420C Magnum Backpack Blower, It is three years old. I use it about once, sometimes twice a week. It probably has about 100 engine hours on it. I was using it today on full throttle and all the sudden I just lost power and it shut off. FIrst instinct was, oh I'm out of gas. But I still had about 1/2 tank left. I tried to start it again and in one pull it fired right up like usual but when I pulled the trigger all the way I lost power and it shut right back off. I think it will idle OK but I didn't mess with it too much so I don't really know. I started it one more time and on the second pull it sounded like the engine backfired or something. I just stopped it at that and I'll see how it acts tomorrow. It cant be the fuel because all of my other Stihl equipment (trimmer, hedger, handheld blower, edger, chain saw) are all working fine. What do you think is wrong. I have never had any trouble with any of my Stihl equipment and I don't use it very much. Do you thin it was just having a bad day or something? I'll let you know how things go when I try to run it again tomorrow.

Thanks

check the air filter. the one that keeps all the crap from getting into the carb. this happened on my lawn mower and i cleaned it out and it works just fine. i have to clean it about once every six to eight months

Here's a 3rd thing to check, since it sounds like a fuel problem. Loosen the cap on the gas tank and if that solves the problem, clean the air vent in the cap, or wherever it is located. You thought it ran out of gas which may be just what happened. The tank has gas but it can't get to the carb. Next solution is to take to a service center and have them fix it.

some problems I have seen in these. The round filter in the gas tank has gotten dried out or hard.not letting enough gas thru.Maybe a hole or pinched line going down the tank. Or the on and off switch is messing up. Check the spark plug and wire to see if tight enough.
