Stick to the same weight at the gym?

I started lifting weights again after a long time and I'm lifting the heavy dumbell I used to lift with is something like 25kg. I'm having trouble with it and can't do half the amount of reps I could do. It's mainly my left arm that was the trouble but the right is still as strong as before. Should I keep it at this weight and how long do you think it will be before my arms can handle it again.
