Watched Bullitt last night on TCM and I felt compelled to make an Appreciation thread dedicated to one of the finest actors and coolest guys ever to have graced god's earth.
Glad to see I'm not the only one to spot that, I remember nattering on at my mates at the cinema of how McQueen like DC's presence was, they didn't get it!
Some types of actors come ten a penny but there'll never be another Steve McQueen.
Considering the number of big actors in The Great Escape and his little screen time he stole the show.
Terrible that he should die so tragically in a way that wouldn't happen today.
Exactly, I remember the first time I watched the Great Escape, the most memorable character was Virgil Hilts. After watching the film I had an urge to walk around with a baseball glove and baseball in my hand
yes he did An Enemy of the People to prove that he actually could act. He was a far better actor than people realised but being dyslexic he preferred to do less talking in his films.
Bullet is a great film but if you read the book then watch the film there is no real idea at all what on earth is going on.
He should have got an oscar for Papillon. The story behind that goes that he was going to get it and won an award before hand. he didn't bother to turn up to that and so the oscar people got upset about it and gave the oscar to someone else instead
I love Papillon, such a gripping film. This film was apparently due to be shown on TV over Christmas but must have been dropped at the last minute. Will have to get the DVD I think
Only two Steve McQueen films over Christmas on the box! Bullitt and Towering Inferno. They haven't even shown The Great Escape this year except for Sky I think. Now that is a shocker!
