Steroids given at 34 weeks to mature baby, but negative FFN Test?

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant, last night I was in the hospital with contractions 4-5 minutes apart, but no change in my Cervix. My doctor did say that the babies head is down, but from what I know is that a babies head can be down for weeks. They gave me a FFN Test, which was negative, so I have a 95% chance of NOT going into actual labor within the next two weeks. In two weeks I will be 36 weeks along and at that time I have been told that the babies lungs are usually developed just enough at this point, so why did I get steroid injections to mature the babies lungs? I thought these were only given if there was a positive FFN test or if the cervix was changing and labor was near. I asked the prenatal nurse and she said it was "just in case", I know that it will not harm my baby if I go full term with the injections, and I am glad that I got them "just in case", but what was the point? Share your stories please.

BTW: has anybody had a negative FFN test and went into labor within the two week period?

I started having contractions at 28 weeks. Went to the hospital 3 times to stop them. I was never given steroids though. I had 3 FFN tests, all negative. I'm not sure why your doctor did that. Good luck!
