My science teacher is making us do this debate. topic: Steroids; Legalize them or not? my group is trying to say why they should be allowed, and i have to talk 3 minutes about one reason. my reason is that if they were legalized, then doctors could prescribe and monitor. the problem is, i tend to use as little words as possible, so i only have about 30 seconds of stuff. also, i have to write a 2 minute rebuttle. any suggestions? by the way, i only have today, maybe tomorrow to get this finished. any help is greatly appreciated! thank you!!
i meant legalize anabolic steroids in sports, to make it legal to take certain steroids to make you faster and stronger, and better at different sports.

My dear coconut tree:
in a nutshell:
Steroids are LEGAL drugs since the years 60s.
A different issue here, is the USE the people and sports people give to such medicines (nandrolone, oxymetazolone, etc) that are supplied in vials and are advised as ANABOLIC agents in cases of malnourition, recovery from wasting and debilitating illnesses (such as after chemotherapy for cancer), some diseases of muscles (atrophic myopathy) because they increase the incorporation of nitrogen products (proteins) to the cell, and favour protein syntheses to some extent, making recovery possible in those diseases.

So, there are LEGAL uses of steroids, when supervised by a certified physician, and ILLEGAL uses, when obtained and used for purposes that are not medical ones, such as gaining speed, or muscular mass,...

On the other hand,,,a small word of caution....the word "Steroids", also include cortisone derivatives, such as betamethasone, prednisolone, fluocinolone, prednisone, dexamethasone, etc and countless others, which have NO effect on the muscular mass or increase of body strenght, they do rather the opposite....(cortisone derivatives may increase muscular wasting, elevation of blood sugar etc)
It would be wise to clarify, what kind of steroids we are dealing here with, and also comment that some of them, have substantial OPPOSITE actions...(traditional steroids versus anabolic ones..)

Both are LEGAL drugs (substances) and both are derivatives of the cholesterol molecule, by pharmacological manipulation (medical research)-----

steroids have been proven time and time again to be injurious - long term...

Although I think a person should have the right to shorten their life, or even end it... and the government shouldn't be IN there... Why would you legalize something that HURTS you... especially because it's in the category of a DRUG.

There are already law, rules, policies to protect us from drugs.

Steroids - trick the body into working harder and developing, often times - after you're suppose to be.

I bet you already know the dozen or so negative side effects.

It's like burning a candle at both ends... and in the middle...
You'll get a BRIGHTER LIGHT for a few minutes..... but then a waste product... way before it's time.

I assume you mean that anabolic steroid use should be legal in sports. From an ethical medical position it is a difficult position to defend.
