stepped on something sharp, can't see a wound?

Last night I had my socks on, walked into the kitchen and I felt a prick as I stepped in one area. I looked at my foot and couldn't find anything there or any mark at all. I can walk fine, just when I like stretch my foot (like standing on the toes and bending to stretch it) that is when I feel a little pain. Still I can't find one mark or scratch at all.

How do I know if something is really there?

I think I found a very tiny little red spot? How would I know if something is in there?
There is no swelling from this morning
