Stephen Kings IT

I watched IT at a sleepover when I was 13, it scared the crap out of most of my frienRAB but even at that age I remember finding it quite amusing (I don't scare easily, never have).

I read the book shortly afterwarRAB and thought it was 100 times better and a lot scarier.

The film is still worth a watch but definitely drags on a bit and the ending is pretty poor. In fact its been a long long time since I watched it, thinking I should give it another go.

Also have to agree with 'Young-free' The shining is an awsome adaptation, now that did scare me.
 
Rubbish adaption of a great book. I'm looking forward to Frank Darabont's movie of The Mist, one of King's best monster stories which will probably end up as a Jurrasic Park style PG/12A flick.
 
I think it might have been and gone. Tommyknockers, Christine and Carrie were all on a few weeks ago - and IT was scheduled in the same time slot as they were. :(
 
IT the film (well mini-series, actually?) is well worth a look, even though it is no where near as good as the book. I think it was let down by a low budget, meaning that the sfx's left a lot to be desired - difficult for a script based on the work of a highly imaginative man like Stephen King!! The monster sucks big time and makes the ending a bit of a damp squib!!

But if you can put that aside, it isn't bad - Tim Currey puts in a great performanc as Pennywise, and the principle charactors are nicely fleshed out (both the youngsters and their older counterparts). There are some fine acting turns there, and to some extent it makes up for the technical problems.

The best scene, funnily enough is the opening scene, where poor Stan gets the news that pennywise is back in town, and takes drastic action. :(
 
Yeah, this TV miniseries is pretty terrible. I guess King also thought this because he took charge of the Stand and Shining miniseries' that followed and both are a lot better, and of course they stick to the books like glue considering he wrote the scripts.

But I wouldn't say that you shouldn't watch it, because some of it's so bad that it's funny. And the parts that are actually from the book (like the opening scene with Pennywise in the drain) will please you if you've read the book. Sadly, so much is changed or toned down to fit into the miniseries format, and IT almost always appears as the clown rather than as each kid's worst nightmare like in the book. They tried to turn the book into something else. Everyone should read the book as it's King's best.
 
don't watch the film as you will end up remember the rubbish film rather than the great book.. big fan of TIm Curry but he wasn't that good as Pennywise the clown.. stick the books always much better than the books esp when talking about Stephen King

only film of his that was any good was Stand By Me but that wasn't a true horry story so easier to adapt
 
The film was a total let down, particularly the ending.

Although having said that, I wasn't a huge fan of the book either. It starts well but goes right off the rails about half way through. Bit like The Tommyknockers in that respect.
 
I changed my mind about the book, it's awesome, I really recommend anyone who hasn't read it to pick up a copy somewhere.

Has the film been on five yet? They advertised it ages ago but the King season seems to have passed.
 
i think the film is an ok watch!..but it nowhere near does the book justice. i think as someone already mentioned that is the case with most Steven King books but imo the worst translation from book to film was "Christine"
