I agree, The Shining should really have been called Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. A great story filmed with an auteur's vision. As for the bit in bold, Its a classic B movie story.

How about my fav king book Salems Lot. The original tv series by Tobe Hooper terrified me as a child. I had genuine nightmares of Danny Glick scrapping at my window! And Barlows face was vile.
There was a remake of it afew years ago, which was more faithful to the book, and it was pretty good, but didnt have the scare factor of the first series.

I did enjoy Salem's Lot, The Shining & Rose Red.
On the big screen I enjoyed Carrie, The Shining, The Shawshank Redemtion, Stand by Me & The Green Mile.

The only one I have seen is where a 1950's American car is haunted and goes on the rampage. That was quite spooky and tense. I think it was called Matilda.

That's another fantastic film. And Christine is a beautiful car. I wanted one of my own after seeing it for the first time.
The Mist - Was very close to my own imagination of the story when I read it as a teenager.
The Running Man (as Richard Bachman) - Great 80s Arnie nonsense.
Salem's Lot (Original TV Miniseries) - Still the scariest, creepiest vampire movie ever.
Misery - For the ankle shot alone, shudder just thinking about it, made Kathy Bates once scary woman.
The Lawnmower Man - Breakthrough AI and CGI in movies, looked great.
