Not sure how unbiased this will be because I too am a lifelong Bears fan, but I'll try. We obviously have two of the most storied franchises here, It's not like were talking the Jaguars vs texans here. You can debate win vs losses, superbowls, vs championships, till your blue in the face, and still not have a clear cut winner. It's all opinion and interpretation. So to settle it I'll go with a tie breaker, but when I think of these two teams I think of the aura around them. That mythical entity that envelops them.
Greenbay has two things going for them IMO. 1. The Frozen Tundra, Nobody continues to play in the great stadiums anymore. Even my bears sold out and ruined soldier field, it looks like a space ship landed on the stadium. Lambeau field is the wrigley field or Fenway park of the NFL. Nothing better than watch a 22 guys trying to kill each other on every play while your sitting there without a shirt in -20 weather. 2. The Packers are the only publicly owned sports franchise that I know of. I know none of the other 4 sports have a team like this. Greenbay sells shares of there team to those willing to buy them and actually have meetings with the share holders to recieve there input. This creates a whole diffrent level of loyalty that I bleieve no other teams experience. I mean come on, The packers are the only reason anybody outside of Wisconsin, even knows that Greenbay exists.
Pittsburgh just brings to life the very meaning of tuff. Hell even the name sounds tuff. If you were getting ready to retire and had never heard of either city and I asked you, would you rather go to Greenbay or pittsburgh. What would you say? "A bay thats green... That sounds nice. I'm not sure what a pitts burgh is but it dosen't sound very friendly". Ok back to football. The steel curtain will always be remembered when you have one of these nostalgia conversations. Next to the 85 bears and (I bleieve) the 2000 Ravens, I would say that it was the most dominate Deffense out there. They also do things the right way. There isn't a revolving door of coaches like there are with so many teams. The Rooney family knows what it is doing.
Overall it is really close. If you want Championships, both teams have them. If you want Hall of famers, both teams should have there own wings in Canton. If you want aura, both teams are top dogs. I would have to give the Pack the slightest of edges wiith Pitt closing fast.
