Stebel Nautilus Air horn

the thread in the VTX forum prompted me to post my install info for my Stebel Nautilus air horn on my 07 Boulevard S50.

I mounted mine on the left side below the radiator.

Wiring:

It comes with a relay so all you need is wire (16-18 awg) and a soldering iron. I mounted mine using hose clamps (3" diameter)

From the horn you run the -ve terminal to the -ve terminal in the fuse box - I ran the wire under the bike.
The +ve terminal of the horn goes to the relay terminal 87

I placed the relay where the stock horn was located and plugged the stock horn cables directly into the relay. I had black (+ve from horn switch) and black with a green tracer (gnd)

The black plugged into 86
The black w/green tracer plugged into 85
For Terminal 30 from the relay I ran it under the tank and seat to the +ve terminal in the fuse box.

The horn is super loud and you can listen to sound clips on their website.
STEBEL S.p.a.

I bought one of those too!.
Mounted it a bit higher, since the rain here (winter in Oz) would drown the horn if too low.

Have turned at least one indian white since!

When I had my 500 Silverwing, I put regular Duel Trumpet air horns on it, and it would care the HELL out of people. When they cut me off, or pulled out in front of me, the horn would make them jump in their seats. I will do it with the Boulevard when I get time... LOUD gets the point across, loud and clear.

OK new problem....I just noticed that the instructions on the horn specify that the relay is a 20amp...the kit came with a 30amp relay that would click, but no current would run through it...I opened it up and it was old and used, pretty worn out & rusty. So I bought a new one..this one clicked a couple of times, then just went out all together....am I missing something here?! Anyone else have the same problem blowing the relay?

I only had this happen when I was shorting out the relay (terminals were touching the frame) and it would click the relay. I found the accessory fuse that I had wired the +ve to was blown.
Replaced that and all was well.
Check that fuse, and check you don't have a short circuit somewhere else.

Bumping an old thread...is anyone having trouble with the relay blowing out? I checked mine today as the horn had gone out & it looks burnt out. It is clicking, however it is not making contact to close the circuit. I had to bend that "tip" inside so that it would make good contact when switched on.

I also checked & nothing is shorting out anywhere. Anyone else?

I know I need one now. Coming home on the beltway tonight I was almost sideswiped by 2 different cars who I was riding right next and had the horn on full and had to swerve out of the way.

Well I guess under the light is not a good place to mount the horn lol. I had to slam on the breaks the other day and punch the horn right through the front fender lol So now I will have to get that fixed with a new fender and I found them to be $130 and change. so dont put yours there lol But the horn did make the driver of the car that tryed to take me out swirve back to the left lol
