Stay out of Newport RI

If you plan on riding through or visiting Newport RI...beware they do not like bikers and they will ticket you for no reason.
They will pull you over for no reason other than to give you a ticket for the so called EPA law .
The fine is $100 dollars and $93 dollars court costs plus one day out of work, request a hearing and the fine goes up to $400 dollars plus $93 court costs. You either have to plead guilty or not guilty.
The police will go out of there way to ticket you for that reason only, even if you are parked. I live close by and none of us go there riding even those with the EPA stamp, because the cops don't know where to look for it so they ticket you anyway.
Whats next no leather jackets? No wearing stickers on your helmet cause they scare the public, think thats far fetched just wait and see. The EPA law is not enforceable the way its layed out and will be beat in court everytime-- so they fiqure you will pay the ticket instead of having to lose time out of work and if your from another state , even better for them. God Bless America

Sounds a rough deal..

Just trying to draw a parallel with the laws over here in the UK, because there are emission laws over here too. In general, the Police don't enforce either noise regulations (lack of roadside testing equipment & a lack of testing equipment at the Ministry of Transport MOT testing stations) but the Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) do. They look like Police vehicles, but with a different colour scheme, and they now have the power to stop vehicles, so they are the ones to avoid....BUT....there has to be a proven need for the enforcement, or it goes beyond the realms of the Human Rights Act legislation in that any enforcement has to be "...proportionate & legitimate..."

Are you saying that it's only two wheeled vehicles that get pulled & ticketed? Sounds like discrimination to me,,

If you have stock pipes they can't ticket you for that. If you've changed to a pipe that doesn't have the EPA stamp you're in violation of the law.

"Welcome to the Liberal North-Eastern US.... Where illegal immigrants have more rights than you do."

Sounds more like rigid conservatism than liberalism . . how did politics get into this thread? My bad . .

In general, Conservatism wants less laws and more freedoms. Conversely, Liberalism wants a law restricting/controlling everything, denial of as many freedoms as possible and near total dependence on the Government. Unless its related to drugs. Then anything goes with Liberals. Newport sounds like a rampant liberal city.
