Status: Problem detected.. ?

All was fine until I moved the receiver across the room (I rewired the room and ran the cables through the walls)... now a good # of channels won't come in.

I ran the switch check and it comes back with:
Status: Problem detected, check connections.

All the connections are fine, I checked and double checked....
Here are the switch inputs:
Port 1 1 2 2
Sat: 91 X 82 82
Transp: Odd X Odd Even

Switch is SW21.

Could anyone please enlighten me as to what could be the problem? Oh, receiver is 4100....

Bad cables or connections are the most likely cause. EV needs a good DC connection to operate correctly. Short center conductors or a bad F connector installation are a common cause of this error.
 
You will miss so of your show, of course, cause the even transponder of SAT91 are not comming in...

Do you have multiple receiver? Is the problem on all of them?

If yes it could be a LNBF problem...if the problem is onl;y on one of the receiver you could do a swap test. Take another receiver that workd in the room were we have the problem and do another checkswitch. Are even on SAT91 present? If yes that means the problem came from the receiver. If know that means the problem is comming from the cable
 
Did you run ALL new cable.?

Loosing evens is sometimes a result of a Splitter being on the line.

Otherwise, check the connectors again, looking for a loose strand of wire. Ensure you used good quality cable and connectors, avoid using the cheap "screw on" type connectors they will cause issues in the future.

I ran new cables for my speakers; an s-video cable; and an HDMI cable - the coax for the dish I kept the same, I just re-routed it.

I checked every connection, I swapped the SW21 switch and I still don't get EVEN's on Sat 91... I am at a loss since I really didn't change anything on the dish/receiver...

...wish I knew what it could be!
 
check the connectors very closely
there may be an aluminum braid touching the center copper pin
let us know how your troubleshooting goes

good thought but I didn't use staples, I used ties to tie the coax, hdmi and s-video cables together and then run them down a wall and then over the ceiling tiles in the basement.

I ran a coax cable from where the sat comes in upstairs and moved the receiver over - same thing ( no even transponders showing for 91). I am at a loss as I didn't touch any other cables.

Could it be the receiver ??:confused:
 
Swap the cables around at the switch. In fact just connect one at a time till you find the bad cable. Since the problem has only started since you messed with the cabling, this almost always means the problem is with the cable rather than the receiver.
 
I don't understand how a cable can be bad from the dish to the switch - I didn't mess with any cables, I merely rerouted the cables, including the coax for the dish...

I'm also perplexed as to how the odd's can come in and the even's show that they don't (even though some even's do come in) - perhaps someone can shed light on my ignorance on this matter? :)
 
If you have a DC voltage meter; check the voltage (between center and shield of cable) out of the receiver for even and odd channel.
Should be around 13 and 19 volts.
If ok there, check along the way to the dish.
If ok at the disn, than the lnb is the trouble.
 
Rerouting can stress the cable, sometimes causing the outer conductor to stretch. Check the cable end. The center conductor should protrude at least 1/8" past the screw on outer connection. Also, connecting and disconnecting receivers with power applied can damage the receiver. It's not common but it does happen.
 
Well, after checking, double, and triple checking every connection and even going so far as to moving the dish itself (getting "...satellite signal is temporarily unavailable) and getting 90% on Transponder 11.. still no dice on the EVEN's - except for Trans. 18, it is the only even one that does come in.

I ran another check switch and it gives exactly the same message as in my very first post...

Any other ideas? :mad:
 
Do you have more than one receiver?

Is the problem present on all receivers (if more than one)?

If yes probably a problem with the LNBF

If no put your "good" receiver in the "problematic" room...is the problem still there? If yes, change the cable, if no it's a receiver problem
 
Unfortunately I only have one receiver... perhaps I should swap out the cable in its entirety ... though I am rather reluctant as it was working just fine and no dish cable was touched....
 
try swapping lnbs
maybe, the lnb is bad
if the problem migrates to 82, then you have solved the problem, maybe.....

I had a similar problem to this a few months back. In my case, I was in fact using a splitter... with no problems occurring for 4 years. Then one day, I lost all my evens as well. I ended up buying a 100ft length of RG6 cable, ran it from the dish to the receiver (no splitter) and voila... all fixed!

The reason I mention this is that earlier it was asked if you have any splitters in your setup and in reading back in this thread, I didn't notice a response to this. Nimiq 1 was correct.. splitters will cause this exact problem (odds only, no evens), as odds run on 12VDC and evens on 18VDC. In the end, my splitter simply burnt out. If you're using one too, this is most likely the case.
 
Nope - no splitter... straight from dish into SW21, from there to the receiver.. but I'll try swapping the LNB's.. perhaps that will cure whatever is ailing the ol' thing...

IT WORKED!

Why.. I have no idea, but I switched the LNBs, ran a check switch and it came back fine - I checked some of the channels that failed to come in before and they're here!

Who would have thought..... thank you very much for the suggestion - for some reason I never thought of it, so kudos go to you :-)

Now to figure out why they would need to be switched... though I'm not in dire straights any longer (or moreso my children!)
 
Do you have someone in you familly, a friend or neibourg who has Express Vu?

If yes borrow their receiver and try it home...this will at least determine if the problem is with the receiver or the set up.
