Statistics Hypothesis Test?

I have a cumulative final in a couple days and seem to still be stuck on the following example:

In a random sample of 10,000 bulbs, 350 were found to be defective. At a significance level of 0.05, test the claim that the defective rate of such bulbs is less than 0.04.


1) Identify Ho and Ha

2) Compute the test statistic

3) Compute the P-Value

4) At a significance level of 0.05, does the sample provide sufficient evidence to support the defective rate or such light bulbs is less than 0.04?

5) If the actual defective rate of such light bulbs is 0.03, what type of error does it introduce?

#1 I concluded: Ho:p=0.04 vs Ha p<0.04
is that right?

#2 I calculated the Z value with:

z = P(pt statistic) - Po / sqrt[(Po x Qo)/n]

When I did the calculation I keep getting the wrong answer....

#3 To get the P-Value I need to take the Z and find the P-Value that corresponds to it on the Standard Normal Cumulative Probabilities table right??

#4 not sure how to do maye because all the previous answers are wrong...

#5 I really don't understand the Type I vs II errors and how to answer the question.
