I just wonder if any of you are on statins. I was. I had a health scare last feb. When i thought I had a heart attack, and my BP was really high. I was put on BP meRAB, asprin and statins.
Not long after that my reflux started. I immediately thought asprin was the culprit so stopped it. No reflux meRAB have worked for me for very long. It keeps getting worse and worse. When reading the side effects of statins, it mentioned abdominal pain - not reflux, but I thought it worth a try. Since I've stopped the statins, my reflux has got better and better. Today it's almost gone. (touch wood) I've also stopped my reflux meRAB - so it wasn't really working anyway.
I'll let you know in a few days if this improvement is here to stay or if ir's just a blip.

I have also wondered this connection. About 8 years ago, i experienced abdominal pain a month or so after starting lipitor. I subsequently stopped using it, but not from that connection, i wanted to see if i could lower my cholesterol naturally. About 3 years ago i started taking Lipitor again, and that is about when my gastritis returned. I was told lipitor was not connected but their side effects lists it. I have tried many things to help solve this and have had some success, but nothing offered a cure. I am thinking about stopping the lipitor again and use the PPIs until i feel my insides are healed, then i will stop the PPIs and see if it returns without being on lipitor.

my reflux is gone now. I still have to take the occassional swig of Peptac (I was told not to take gaviscon because it's very high in salt content) I have not had a glass of wine or any alcoholic or fizzy drink since this whole thing started. My next step is to have one and see how that works. Will keep you informed. I have not told my doc yet and am still waiting for my appointment for my gastro thingy. My cholestrol wasn't that high. 6.1 (british measurements) don't know what that would be in US. I've heard of people much higher. I'll keep you posted.
