Is the movie any good..I have just finished watching the Beeb series on DVD ( missed it at the time ) and it was stunning...how does the US set movie compare ? Is it worth watching so soon after watching the original series ?

film is nowhere near as good as the series, lots of characters (like James McAvoy's) get cut and such (but that's going to happen anyway)
it is a good film, but the tv series is much, much better

Thanks all.

Pazozo. since you have seen both...does the movie follow the same plotline with the same twist as the TV series ( albeit moved to a U.S setting ) ? if so I think I'll give the film a miss.

yes, it is the same story, and better actors in the BBC version. It's a good film, but in comparison to the TV series, it's far weaker

One of the best movies in 2009.

Thank god I got free cinema ticket for it, and also got it on blu ray.

Fantastic thriller like The Ghost writer, if your into smart and moving thrillers this is it.

I'm sure the BBC series is better but for a 2 hour film this is quite good.

Ignore crappy blockbusters like Clash of the titans, Avatar or Terminator 4, this is what you call a film in terms of quality!

I watched the film last night and saw an interview (I think with Mirren) a couple of months back and she mentioned the series.

I'm now inclined to watch the series as it has high ratings, A decent cast and a well know and renowned writer.

Apparently Pitt and Ed Norton where originally cast but things didn't go to plan. I guess Crowe is not too bad a backup although he did discuss whether he was worthy for the role with his new best friend Ridley.

Thanks for the feedback...it appears to be a great movie based on all the comments but I still don't really know if its worth watching if you have already seen the series ...anyone ?

I wouldn't say it was a great movie but decent enough. Obviously it is quite scrunched up taking it down from 6 hours to under 2.

I saw the film first and now am watching the series and the series is alot more indepth (as you would have thought). It has more subplots/background on the characters. There are a few subtle plot changes but standout from the film. It also has some big names from the UK acting pool which may make it more interesting for UK viewers.

e.g.
Bill Nighy, John Simm, Phillip Glenister, David Morrisey, James McAvoy, Kelly MacDonald, Marc Warren etc.

Good film, Mirren is annoying tho with all the "cockerney" slang which doesn't remotely sit well with her character. It's well worth watching tho for the plot and Crowe.
