yeah, the whole 'I'm too cool to get on the bike before starting it' goes out the window pretty quick.

we all pull the too-cool shit sometimes. i used to have this sweet (in my mind) dismount, until I dropped the bike on myself in front of about 20 people. nice, huh?

get your gear on, get on the bike, pull the clutch, get her in neutral, then pop the starter. then you're ready for whatever happens next.
 
I notice nobody mentioned verifying your neutral engagement before shutting your bike off. I do that every time I stop the bike in neutral. I don't believe the bike can engage into first by itself. But either way works, of course!
