Starting weight for Gluteal Exercises?

If I were just starting out weight training, but at present I don't have a cable machine. However, I thought I would try a cable kickback move with ankle weights? and I was wondering what would be a reasonably feasible beginning weight for a female to start out with?

Or, better yet, what is the female average? and I will attempt to make a slow progression toward working myself up to that if need be.
