I have been having the same intermittent problems...strain with no turn over. Multiple tries with starter button eventually worked in 3 experiences, but scary as once was in alligator alley in Fla., and the other times a long way from home in Indiana. Didn't know to try rocking idea. Any other suggestions since it is so unpredictable.

Several things could be a problem. Get a repair manual from Clymer, and trouble shoot. I would start off with checking basic things like plugs, fuel filter, air filter, run the tank dry and get new gas from a different gas station, etc...
