Starting From Scratch

Hey,no fair.You read my thoughts and copied them down eletronically. :p

Unless a law passes with no cliches,there will continue to be cliches.

It's sort of inevitable for some things.I mean,seeing a house is a cliche isn't it?:shrug:
 
"Those characters are getting married? What a cliche!"

"He's going to school? What a cliche!"

"They're going on a date? What a cliche!"

Some things just happen in real life.
 
While pure originality is out of the question, there are certain ways to do a variation on a cliche. A couple that come to mind:

1. Gargoyles episode Future Tense: At first glance, this might seem like the usual "It was only a dream and everything will be alright" episode. But in later episodes (and the comic) certain events are echoed and there are many spoilers that have been given which again echo what we saw in Future Tense.

2. Avatar The Last Airbender episode Crossroads Of Destiny: At this point you expect the antagonist (Zuko) to side with the protagonists of the show given that he's gained a new outlook on life and even had a friendly a civil moment with one of the characters. Afterall, we've had several cartoons where the antagonist would redeem themselves. But instead, he makes a bad choice and is miserable for it.
 
But he does join the good guys, just a few episodes later. A better example would be Lance (Avalanche) from X-Men Evolution. We see him take some steps into joining the X-Men, and he even does for some time, yet we still see he's just a rebel at heart and can't be around them and returns to the Brotherhood. Tabitha (Boom Boom) also did this, though she changes sides quite often and shifts between the two, though in the epilogue we see her back with the X-Men again.
 
But my point is that he didn't join on the episode that fans were expecting him to. I mean, you had some fans literally asking Brian and Mike to reanimate the actual episode for crying outloud.
 
Not just cliches, but also common stereotypes normally found in toons. It's getting to the point that so many toons used the same 'types so so long that they're carbon copies of some other toon.
 
You do realize that's easier said than done, right? There have been literally hundreds of animated shorts/series made over the decades and also a great deal many books and comics have been written. It's virtually impossible to create something that absolutely no one has ever thought of before.
 
So? People sue each other all the time, often without any real cause. Maybe it would help further your case if you gave some specific examples.
 
Which proves nothing except that people are wont to make frivolous lawsuits.

Perhaps, as AlegaX mentioned, it would help your point if you were to name some specific examples of these so-called "cliches", bearing in mind that some cartoon conventions, such as living in a house, having parents or siblings, owning a pet, going to school or work, and driving a car do not count as cliches.
 
I honesty think true originality doesn't exist anymore. Too many stories have been told thru too many different mediums to have a truly unique story.

But I'll say this much, just because something is cliche, doesn't mean it's always bad!
 
I think that it is impossible to make a show with absolutly any cliches. You may not have all the annoying stereotypes but still have something that came from somewhere.
