Starting faction in Empire Total war and financial guide?

I am REALLY used to Med and Rome in terms of taking territories to make money... now i get to empire and get screwed...is there somebody who can help me with a good starting faction so i can learn how to make money and set up trade routes in the game? i haven't figured that out yet....
