Starting at the gym for the first time, need some advice.?

So I'm joining a gym my friend goes to this thursday and I'd like some tips on how I should be cycling around the equipment and how long I should be spending on each piece of equipment. I'm 16 years old, almost 17 and I'm only about 5 foot 7 and I weigh about 9 and a half stone. I'm mainly going to the gym to buff up a little and get my fitness back on tracks as I have been ill for the past couple of months. Another problem is I have exercise induced asthma so I'm worried I might be struggling to do what other people of my age would be doing. Any help on what I should start working out on and which machines will show me the most progress. I will be going to the gym on tuesdays and thursdays although I don't know how long I'll spend there, it could be all day if I wanted it to be. Even though I'm asthmatic I will work hard and I'd like to see a difference as soon as possible as I already have quite a decent build, I just need to tone it up.
