I just bought a used dirt bike, that has been sitting in a garage for 15 years, the owner said that last year he got the bike started and rode it for a bt, but then decided he was too old, so now a year later i have the bike and im trying to get it started, i started by draining most of the old gas out of the tank by undoing the tube going into the carb and draining it into a drip pan,i then re attached the gas line added fresh gas, now when i try to kick start it, it doesent want to do much, the engines turning over and theres a bit of smoke coming out of the back, not alot but you can smell it and see it, sometimes i hear a pop sound witch i presume is a backfire.
anyways after trying for about 30 mins, i decieded to ask here, theres probably some old gas still in the carb, i did not take it off as i dident have the time today but i figured there shouldent be much, and i was hoping it would get flushed through the system and new gas would enter,
so what im tihnking would be the next best step would be to take the carb off and clean it out, and if that doesent work possibly buy a new spark plug.
anyone have any suggestions?
