I need to know the difference in creating a fictitious name, dba, or forming an s corp. What is a fictitious name used for, when you start a business. Sunbiz Florida wrote me back that anyone can use the same fictitious name that may be on file as you do not own the rights to a fictitious name, then what is the purpose in the first place. ex, Tom Jones dba xyz? I had to file for a certificate of use with the local municipality, because the merchandise I am going to sell needed approval from their zoning and planning division. I had to file for an occupation license with the County I am operating in, filed for State resale tax id, and now a fictitious name. I am doing all of this so I can obtain a State resale tax Certificate so I can buy merchandise wholesale from suppliers, otherwise they wont sell you. Can someone unravel all of this please. If I am just starting a business I thought to incorporate might not be a good idea from the beginning as I do not know how well I will do. If I am successful then how will I be able to register the fictitious name as a Corp if other people are using the same name etc. I am a little discouraged about the process, and do not know which direction I should take. PS I cant afford to incorporate with an Attorney right now. Help Thank you
