Me and a friend have decided to take our combined knowledge and start an audio/security shop. We already have a very good location, a company logo, insurance, and a lot of other necessities. We are planning to keep our investment low for the most part, so we decided to start off with about 80% of our services being subwoofer/amplifier repairs, enclosure builds (SPL & daily builds in fiberglass and wood), running wiring, head unit installs, etc... And the other 20% being small retail. Small retail being name brand audio and security for as low a cost as possible, but not low-quality products.
We are trying to base our retail off of what we see a lot of here in town, mostly Kicker, JL Audio, Memphis, and Alpine to start out. Partly because word-of-mouth on one particular system for example, someone has two 12" Kicker CVX's on a ZX1500.1 and they have a friend listen to it. Chances are, that friend is also going to want a similiar setup and will be looking for those products. After we start getting more and more popular and our income starts increasing, then we would start to work our way up into higher end brands. My friend and I are tired of working dead end jobs, minimum wages, low hours, and unsanitary working conditions in a lot of today's workforce. We both share a life long passion for audio and after every build we do, we look at it and are just blown away by what our own two hands can do and the smile on the person's face we built it for gives us both a feeling that cannot be replaced.
Anyhow, it's 4:35 in the morning here in Kansas, and I was wondering if there any audio shop owners across the states who would be willing to offer us some pointers, tips, or anything else useful to help us turn our passion into a career. Thanks!
