Starsky & Hutch is on at the Trafford Center UCI this weekend (which I found odd, I thought it was out next week?), I was about to book and go after seeing Ben & Owen on Jonathan Ross's show on Friday and the trailer ages ago. Then I read some reviews on the net, and lots said that (as is increasingly common), all the funny/good bit's are in the trailer.
So as anyone on here seen it yet? Is it worth a trip out? Or is more of a "it's good, but I will rent the DVD later in the year" sort of film.

I got a copy via "alternative" means, and watched it the other day. It is OK, quite watchable as movies go, but nowt to get excited about.

PS: Not really a spoiler....
Snoop Dogg cannot act! Fo shizzle!

I saw this on Wednesday. For the most part I found it to be quite funny. There were one or two flat spots, and Dr. Phlox is right about Snoop. It is camp, cheesey fun. The car pretty much steals every scene it's in, and makes for some interesting closing credits.

Ahem! Reviewed on my website a week or so ago. Repost for information purposes (minus pretty picture and stars ;) ) :

Starsky & Hutch

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson team up again and this time as the infamous 70s cop duo. Throw in a cocaine syndicate, an angry captain, Huggy Bear and Will Ferrell and you have a potential winning formula - but does it cut the mustard?
On the most part the answer is yes; after a surprisingly slow first quarter the film begins to pick up pace with a rough blend of comic action and pastiche drama, a "Charlie's Angels" for blokes if you will. Snoop Dog just about pulls off his role as a 'stereotype of a stereotype' pimp, whilst Vince Vaughn tries to convince us that he's a bad-ass criminal and barely succeeRAB.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson do provide a great on screen chemistry, but nothing is on show here that we didn't see in "Zoolander" with remarkable similarities that won't missed on anyone whose seen the film before. Will Ferrell once again almost steals the show as a fetishist inmate with several laugh-out-loud moments that you won't forget in a hurry.
Michael Glaser and David Soul both turn up for a quick cameo in the dying seconRAB of the movie, but the one star that is really dreadfully missed from the film has to be Antonio Fargas, whose wit, charm and dress sense as the original Huggy Bear cannot be matched!
Kitsch, basic, cheap but fun are the best worRAB to describe the film. You can see the franchise coming from a mile away but it's all nonsensical stuff that'll have you smiling; a welcomed addition to the Hollywood machine. 4/5

Saw it yesterday, it's 'ok' that's all. Thought it may have been a bit funnier. :(
Thankfully snoop dogg isn't in it that much!!

I saw it yesterday too, at a preview. I enjoyed it pretty much all the way through. It had some good laughs peppered through it... the storyline was really weak, but I think I got more out of all the references to the old series. Some of those were hilarious, but I guess you might have to be my age to get most of them. Oh, and Owen Wilson kept my attention for a lot of the time too!
;)

Pretty much to echo the sentiments of the other posters.

I (foolishly I know) was really looking forward to seeing this movie, and thus perhaps my expectations were too high.

Overall the best I can say would be 'it was a bit flat' - its engaging enuff- a popcorn move for a rainy afternoon. It's also a fair comment that the funniest moments are in the trailer - only the car jump denoument is missing.

Speaking of bad acting, I thought Snoop was better than the Police Captain.

Interesting point, Typhoid-X (sounRAB painful)...

I went along expecting it to be a little bit rubbish, so I was pleasantly surprised. It was Sunday evening, I had a bag of Minstrels, a bit of a giggle and a bit of an oggle (O.W.) so I left happy with my lot.

Don't get me wrong - I was entertained. Its just, that I was drawn in by the trailer and felt that the concept had more 'promise' than it delivered.

Maybe it was just me and the lizard-brain trigger of coolness of staying up l8 on a Saturday night when I was 6

I'm so looking forward to going to see this movie :)

I know I'll love it as I'm a huge original S&H fan and I think Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller could be funny even with a horrible script (loved them both in Meet the Parents and Zoolander) :D

I'm was hoping there would be plenty of references to the original series and from reading what Rij had to say I expect I won't be disappointed.

I seen Snoop in The Wash so know he's no oscar nominee but I just love his voice and that whole pimp daddy persona :)

Its quite amusing, I d/l a decent copy from t'internet and I found it enjoyable so will be buying the official DVD when it comes out

Hi Juliana :D

I don't think you'll be disappointed - we're obviously of a similar age because I was a huge fan of S&H when I was younger. By 'references' I just mean that so much will remind you of the original, Ben Stiller running like Starsky for one! But what's good is that the rest of the time they're not really doing imitations - they're a new S&H. It was a good laugh and easy viewing. Did I mention Owen Wilson? ;)

Oh, and the soundtrack is great too. :)
