That's a great find, JR!

Thanks for starting this thread. I loved the movie and everything in it. The special effects, the actors' performances, the gripping and interesting storyline ... everything was so well-done and made of win.

I agree with you guys about James Spader. He was so right for the role. He's got the nerdy smart look with the glasses and hair and his behaviour would make you totally root for him.

I'm a big fan of sci-fi and this was one of the best in sci-fi history. It was definitely underrated and should have taken more notice.

Btw, can I be added to the fan list too? :flowers:
I'll try to find anything to be posted here. And thank for posting that link, I'll be sure to check it out.

Oh, thanks Kass.

Found a "Promo Reel" on YouTube:

Quick Question: Does anyone know where I can find the Official Novelization for the movie by Bill McKay, I think was the author's name?

I think I have five stills. I'll find them and post them. I love this movie!

I may have to buy myself a DVD of this.

I'll find one and post screen caps in the coming months.

Okay, so I finished watching my Father's Ultimate Edition DVD of Stargate (the movie is still amazing, after all these years), and I noticed for the first time, for an "Ultimate Edition", there isn't alot in the way of special features. There's the speculative Featurette "Is there a Stargate?" and the semi-short, but very informative featurette on the making of the film (and I finally discovered where Roland Emmerich got the name "Tatopoulos" from for his character in Godzilla :P).

I mean, there are trailers, but I guess given that there's a Director's Cut of the film, there was no need to include the deleted scenes on the Theatrical DVD version. Still, I expected just a little more inside with a such a nice looking box. *Shrugs*

Arg, this thread needs movie pictures... so hard to find any online. :(

Could I be added to the fan list please :flowers: I've always loved this movie, especially the directors cut. I think the extra scene's add a bit more to the movie.

Yes, he does to some extent. I never really thought of the similarity until someone mentioned it on YouTube. Ironically.

^^^A fun diversion on an afternoon.

It reminds me of how adventurous science fiction and action should be.

Anyway, doesn't Kurt Russell's character look like Duke Nukem in this?

I know, a totally underrated movie, if only because who's attatched to it (Ronald Emmerich). And the special effects, albeit a little dated, are still great. Alot practical effects (minatures and the like) were used instead of alot of CGI.

Yes, Kurt Russell was very awesome as Jack O'Neil. I loved James Spader all the more for Daniel, because he wasn't a "jerk" of a character like most of the roles Spader usually portrays in movies. He was full on nerdy. :D

An underrated movie.

I still love the special effects and Kurt Russell is awesome in this along with the rest of the cast.

Summary: In 1928 in Giza, Egypt, a colossal coverstone is uncovered, which houses a stone ring underneath it. The expedition commissioner’s daughter takes an amulet inscribed with the symbol of Ra from a work table at the site. In the present day, Egyptologist Daniel Jackson is approached at a symposium by an old woman wearing the Ra necklace and is offered the chance to translate Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs that may prove his theories that the Pyramid of Khufu wasn't built in the 4th Dynasty. Curious, Jackson accepts before being given tickets to an Air Force installation.

The stone ring, identified as the Stargate, is revealed to Jackson, who identifies the seventh symbol after looking at the symbols on the Stargate. The seven symbols are then entered into the Stargate, which opens a wormhole. A probe is sent through the Stargate and is tracked to a location in the “Kalium Galaxy” on a planet on the other side of the universe. The probe sends back images on the planet it is on before the wormhole disconnects. The images sent by the probe reveal that the world it was sent to has an atmosphere similar to Earth and that the Stargate on that planet has a different set of symbols on it, making a return to Earth impossible unless the symbols on the other Stargate are translated. Jackson convinces the military to send a team through the Stargate and let him go with them, as he will be able to translate the symbols on the other Stargate.

Okie-dokey, I've created a thread for the film Stargate. Keep in mind that this is a designated thread for the 1994 movie, not the Multi-Spin-off TV Series and its movies, so keep that kind of conversation separated from each other, please? Just within the context of the movie and its tie-in novels.

I haven't watched this movie in good while (five years to be exact) and It kinda popped up in my head like a random thought fallen from a file cabnet. As a kid, I thought this movie was a "scary" (Horror) movie, when I came in on the scene where Ra's gaurds were taking out the Soldiers in the Pyramid. And the aformentioned years later, my dad bought the Ultimate Edition and I forced my brother and sister to watch it with me and we loved it so much we watched it a dozen times over in one month until we got sick of it. A great adventure/Sci-Fi, with a compelling enough story and characters, all perfectly played by their actors, to warrent a sequel... though it never happened.

If you feel like discussing the movies, then feel free to post here.
