Star wars trilogy-vs- The Matrix trilogy

Now this seems like a more better comparison then the LOTR and Matrix one on here (or e.g. fantasy-vs-sci-fi old gibgable:rolleyes: ).

So both sci-fi movies have changed the way other movies were made, spawned million if not trillions of clones (often really bad ones:sleep: ), and both have flawed sequals (bar empire strikes back). And both have become part of popular culture and there it would remain for the foreseeable future.

But the one thing i would like to know is, which one do you prefer?

Which one has that extra boost? Which one do you watch with total awe? Which one has a story and plot that blows your mind? And lastly which one is the most visually stunning?

For me at least, The matrix will have to win. I am no fan of the sequals, and the plot well, what plot? lol but as for the visuals itself its a total awe fest. Its sexy, its mind numblingly twisty but visually its beautiful! I think it has been unfairly critised by the press and every body around the world (including me) and sadly that critisem and the brand "disapointment" and "hype" will always follow the sequals now and it will sadly be remembered by some as the biggest disapointment in Hollywood history. Which is unfair really since how can you top a film like 'The matirx'? I mean really how? However i do believe that these films will be taken in and seen by fans as a cult sci-fi movie, which in my opinion is what the Matrix trilogy really should be remembered as!

As for the Star wars trilogy, very enjoyable popcorn romb......but totally destoryed by the prequals and, god forbid.............JAR JAR BINKS

A New Hope vs The Matrix

Both are excellent movies and pushed the envelope when it comes to Special Effects. There's also the Japanese influence in both movies as well and some great shoot outs, but The Matrix doesn't have a bloody big Star Destroyer at the beginning or a really excellent space battle at the end. And to be quite honest, Han Solo is way cooler than Neo, and Darth Vader is cooler than Agent Smith.

Winner: A New Hope

The Empire Strikes Back vs Matrix Reloaded

Do I even need to bother? Empire is the best Star Wars movie, Han Solo gets frozen, Luke loses a hand but gains a daddy (awww). He even makes out with his sister. We get to see Yoda who rules and the Millenium Falcon flying through the asteroid field still looks great today. Who woulda thunk with all that misery going on that it's also the funniest Star Wars movie.

Matrix Reloaded just plain stinks. The fight scenes are just boring. It might look good on paper to have Neo fight everyone with one hand behind his back, but onscreen he looks bored which makes me bored. Then we have The Architect. Seriously, what the hell was all that about? The car chase that everyone raved about was just dull. The highlight of the movie was the big Agent Smith pile on.

Winner: Empire Strikes Back (as if there was any doubt)

Return of the Jedi vs Matrix Revolutions

OK I haven't actually seen Revolutions yet, but I've heard it's not great. Jedi however is great. More big space battles, a big slobbery Jabba the Hutt (not the crappy CGI version), Princess Leia in the slave outfit and Luke kicking daddy's ass. And I still choke up when Yoda dies. What's not too like (OK the ewoks).

Winner: Jedi

You can't count the prequels as that would make 5 movies and therfore no longer a trilogy.

Basically Star Wars is better than Matrix. LOTR is better than both of 'em.

The Matrix trilogy ? Johnny Mnemonic with knobs on filmed three times, no progression, no heart,no point.
I'm not a fanatic for George Lucas, but if you are just comparing the two franchises there is only one winner Star Wars. Sorry to sound like a wrinkley, but if you were around in the summer of '77 Star Wars kick-started everything, Sci-Fi film and tv production and the merchandising industry. Would the world wait twenty-five years for the next Matrix ? nuff said.

I would have to go with the Star War's trilogy. I was around when it first hit the cinemas so can remember what an impact it made. I just like the story that runs through the film and at least you don't have to figure out anything, not like in the Matrix trilogy.

The first Matrix was a fantastic film but nothing was straight forward and the rest of the films seemed to lose the plot for me.

Star Wars has survived the test of time, people now cannot wait for the dvd version to be released which proves a point. I cannot see many people wanting to buy the Matrix trilogy with such eagerness.

The Matrix's legacy is much smaller than the Star Wars one (I'm talking about the first movies in both cases)
The Matrix's just comes down to bullet time and making ripping off Martial Arts movies very fashionable.

Star Wars did nothing less than change the movie lanRABcape. I can't start to try being complete, but one thing it acclomplished is that it made Science Fiction a genre for the masses.

I know what I'm about to say may seem controversial - but is anyone else bored of the 'Matrix' and 'LOtR' discussions. Hasn't everything of value already been said - reading this thread is very much like reading any number of threaRAB both here and at other film sites.

I know that films are low on the ground at the moment, but couldn't we restrict all future 'matrix/lotr' discussions to a single thread, rather than creating more and more?

I am a huge LOTR fan but i would have to agree with you.....even though i made this thread (my own fault sorry:o ) i have to say i am also bored of the Matrix/lotr talk now..........!
