Star Wars to be given the 3-D treatment

oh yes, i seen that now.....just hope they dont pull it in favour of the 3D versions. you would think releasing them on BR a year before the 3D cinema version might be too much and effect the cinema sales.....or then again maybe the hype machine would build from one to the next....

Don't even joke about that. Lucas will probably have him throw a coat over Greedos head or something rather than blast him like the dodgy spice smuggler he is.

Nah, the Blurays will definitely be here next year. Then the 3D Blurays will start to roll out a couple of years later, when home adoption of the format may be wider spread....!

Sigh. I wish Lucas would concentrate on making truly great films again like THX1138 and American Graffiti, but that seems a forlorn hope.

The industry should be concentrating on making BluRay the default format instead of DVD (which seems to be taking forever and I'm starting to doubt it will ever happen!)

I know I have an option, but having seen every version that they've put out in the cinema, and bought the videos in normal and wide screen (not at once but different times), then bought the dvd's I guess I'll have to go to the cinema to watch these.

Perhaps, and I say perhaps this is the starting process of the next trilogy. Remember that when he "updated" the original and added the digital characters he used that as a testing board for the prequals. I recall not long after Jedi that the whole thing was supposed to be 9 films long. I'd also have to check back wasn't there a stipulation from Lucasfilms that stopped authors writing novels in certain time frames both pre and post original trilogy, which was ear marked for films?

Good grief how geeky am I if I can recall that stuff???

He should re-release all six episodes. Only with a decent script. He has no idea what makes a great film anymore. He thinks it's all in the special effects, when in actual fact they merely enhance a good story, with interesting and plausible characters, speaking well written dialogue.
Still, i suppose the idiotic fanboys will reward him in their droves.

There were never plans for 9 films. It was only a journalist who said that, after misinterpretting an interview with Lucas. Paraphrased, it wnet something like this;

Journalist: Do you intend to make any more Star Wars films?

Lucas: Yes, I intend to make another trilogy at some point.

Journalist: Do you ever intend to make episodes 1, 2 and 3?

Lucas: Yes, I already have a basic idea about sohwing how Luke's father became Darth Vader.

The journo mistakenly assumed Lucas was referring to two separate trilogies here, when in fact he was referring to the prequels in both answers. Lucas cleared this up in an interview years ago and they used to have it up on the official Star Wars website, somewhere. Not that this stops fanatical Star Wars fanboys from denying this in the hope they may get another fix of new Star Wars goodness. ;)

Of course, that's not to say Lucas won't change his mind one day and decide that there's more money to be made. But that's the official story from the Bearded One's lips.

Chances are we'd just get Jar Jar porn, so best to hope it stops at only six films.

I'm gonna skip the 3-D release and wait for the inevitable 4-D release in about 10 years time . I always wanted to know what a wookie smelled like?

Strong with the force, this idea is not.

Just an excuse to make even more money, I like Simon Pegg's quote about now being able to see the car crash coming out of the screen at you. :D

I've read this is just a conversion to 3D by ILM and Lucas isn't involved really so no extra scenes or tweaking will be done.

9 was said when the first film came out in 77. I think since then he has said it is only 6 and RotJ is the last one.

You are right about the books though he has a plan on how the universe works, i.e Han and Leia having twins etc and any authors have to fit into that

yes as the way i see it,no matter which disc based format we have them on(DVD now or Blu Ray next year),the only place to truly do the OT justice is the cinema, also allows the wounger generation to see them as they were intended to be seen on the big screen

To be fair Star Wars is hardly a "Dead Horse".
As a franchise it makes millions each year through the films, Toys,Games,Books etc.
As much as I'm not too keen on the 3D idea, I do have to say fair play to George as all he's doing is bringing Star Wars to new audiences which as long as the women all over the world carry on giving birth then there will always be a new audience to sell Star Wars to.
