There were never plans for 9 films. It was only a journalist who said that, after misinterpretting an interview with Lucas. Paraphrased, it wnet something like this;
Journalist: Do you intend to make any more Star Wars films?
Lucas: Yes, I intend to make another trilogy at some point.
Journalist: Do you ever intend to make episodes 1, 2 and 3?
Lucas: Yes, I already have a basic idea about sohwing how Luke's father became Darth Vader.
The journo mistakenly assumed Lucas was referring to two separate trilogies here, when in fact he was referring to the prequels in both answers. Lucas cleared this up in an interview years ago and they used to have it up on the official Star Wars website, somewhere. Not that this stops fanatical Star Wars fanboys from denying this in the hope they may get another fix of new Star Wars goodness.
Of course, that's not to say Lucas won't change his mind one day and decide that there's more money to be made. But that's the official story from the Bearded One's lips.
Chances are we'd just get Jar Jar porn, so best to hope it stops at only six films.
