Star Wars to be given the 3-D treatment

Glad to see that plans are finally going forward,it seems like an age since they frist announced it,just a bit of an arse they are starting with Phantom Menace,as starting with the prequel trilogy only lessens the impact of Vaders secret in Empire

I love the Star Wars films but I wish Lucas would just move on from this saga now. How much money does he really want to squeeze out of one franchise?

Should be good, except for the fact TPM is first out the gate in 2012, then yearly for the the next 5, so 2015 til ANH, 2016 for TESB, and of course 2017 til RotJ.

Well exactly. Re-mastering films that weren't shot in 3D originally won't work anyway - just look at Clash of the Titans.

Is Lucas really that short of money ?

I certainly won't be bothering. I've got the untouched original cinema versions of the original trilogy on DVD and that's good enough for me.

Odd that Episode I is up first.
I don't know if it came direct from Lucasfilm but I saw excerpts from Episode IV - bits of the Death Star run and the opening attack on the Rebel ship - rendered in 3D on a TV at a trade show in May which were pretty impressive.
If I was five again I'd have been sold but I think it'll get wearying after two hours.

When the original trilogy was re-released in 97 they added in some extra footage. Some good (like Biggs) some not so good (like when they were driving into Mos Eisley). Will they try the same thing again? Can we expect more scenes of in your face aliens or are they just tweaking scenes we are already familiar with?

its a real shame that they could not have just given us SW in HD on Bluray and everyone is happy. then go 3D after and they are welcome to it, but I am not interested in 3D and definatly not post3D

Now, instead of saying "Does Lucas really need the money" when he does things like this, and perhaps take the 3D versions as a special treat from the bearded wobble neck!
If done well (and I'm sure they will be) it's gonna look pretty damned cool, that is if were not all cheesed off with 3D by the time the OT comes out, or indeed if 3D will still be around! Some of us fans may well get an OAP cheaper pass by then too (not me btw).

I'd certainly want the whole saga on blu ray more than I would 3D, but having said that I WILL be going to see these films on the big screen again in 3D. :D

I would urge anyone who ever loved the original movies to please give these releases a wide berth, don't protest, complain, or give them any further attention than this thread, just walk on by, don't even mention them in public, by all means curse Lucas in a quiet moment of solemn contemplation, but for christ's sake do all you can to make TPM3D the dampest squib in cinema history.
