I'm also not getting the negative reaction to the setting. Sure, some elements I could do without (Anakin taking on a Padawan?) but the Clone Wars are a massive part of Star Wars continuity, a three year long conflict on a massive scale. There are a ton of stories you can tell there and we got some of them during the three year wait between Episode II and III. This film and series might drop the ball but the setting itself has potential.
I'm also going to buck the trend and say I'm not that keen on seeing sequels with the original cast. The Star Wars EU is a mess, full of terrible half baked ideas stemming from the whims of writers who can't agree. Is Star Wars science fiction? fantasy? Mystical? Technical? I'm certainly not interested in seeing them animate nonsense like the dull back and forth of the Bantam era or the over the top threats of the New Jedi Order series.
