Star Wars Scene?

I first saw SW when it was released in 77 (I was 10).

I swear I remember a scene with Luke and Biggs talking about the "Academy" and Biggs relating some stories and how Luke should join etc etc. It wasnt a long scene, but Ive never ever seen it again - either when the film came round again at Christmas (remember when they did that!!) or on any subsequent cinema, video or DVD release.

Does anyone else remember it?

I know it was in the book - which I read 5 years after I saw Star Wars so dont think this is where I got confused - although there was a lot going on in my 10 year old brain!! But there was quite a lot of "Luke / Biggs" interaction in the book that they never included in the film.

The only other possibility I can think of was I saw it on one of the "Making Of" programmes they did about Star Wars and it was a scene they filmed but never used...although Im 90% sure I remember it at the cinema!

Anyone, Bueller? Anyone??

Allie

No, it was never in the film. You may have seen it on the CDROM Behind The Magic, or heard it in the radio play adaptation.

If I remember correctly this was one of the many deleted scenes. The only other possibility is it was deleted in the 1997 versions where new digital enhancements were made and scenes added. I think Prince Andrews then girlfriend Koo Stark, was also in a scene that got the chop.

On a similar note, I've always known that "Annie" fell into a lava pit, which is how he became Darth Vader (or at least why he wore the iconic black survival suit). But I'm pretty sure this isn't in any of the original films, and other people I've talked to about it had never heard of this.

Of course at the end of Episode III, this is exactly what happens. I can only assume that it was because I had the novel of Return of the Jedi many years ago and it came from there. Anyone know?

I also knew about him falling into the lava before episode 3. I think I read it in a Star Wars annual many years ago that could be why. If nto it was in some kind of star wars book I read.

Thank you :)

For years I thought I was going mad.

I saw the original film back when I was a nipper and swear this scene was there. Like you said it was in the book, and I even remember pictures on the scene in the Star Wars Storybook my parents got me (it was in the desert of Tatooine if I remember rightly).

Could it have been left in some prints by accident?

I saw it in Bradford in March '78 (I think).

Nurse, you can let me out now. I'm not mad :D

That is odd. Being a devoted (i.e. obsessive) Star Wars nut, I'm 99.9% sure that scene was never in any theatrical cuts. It did appear in a lot of the "making ofs" and "deleted scenes" documentaries, but was NOT in the 1977 cut, or any subsequent re-cuts like 1980, 1997 and 2004)

Biggs on Tattooine

Thanks all. I did wonder if it had been left in a few cuts - would have been more likely if Id seen it in one of the big London cinemas, but no, ours was the preverbial Odeon flea pit in Southend! Maybe it was the provincial edition - LOL!

Im still so certain it was in the version I saw, and comforted that Pacman has a similar memory :D Surely we cant both be wrong??? :D

It could be I saw a "Making of" program that Xmas and thats where I saw it and got confused. I remember it from the radio play - and visualised in my head the scene I saw at the cinema (Biggs had a 70s "porn star" tash that always made me chuckle even before I knew what a porn star was!).

Ah well, Id love to know if it WAS ever released with that scene in - I wonder who would know? Anyone we could email, as Im really curious now!

Ok, Ive done some digging and Ive found a transcript of the scene I "saw". It appears (as probably any hard core SW will already know) that there was originally two scenes previous to this, first Luke watching the battle through binocs on Tatooine (dont ever remember this in the movie, though it was in the book), next, Luke telling his frienRAB about it at Tosche Station and them going outside to look themselves (seeing nothing) - again, dont remember this at all - Ive watched this clip and it isnt familiar, but this next one was IT:

ORIGINAL SCRIPT EXCERPT:

EXT. TATOOINE - ANCHORHEAD SETTLEMENT - POWER STATION - DAY

Luke and Biggs are walking and drinking a malt brew. Fixer and the others can be heard working inside.

LUKE
(Very animated)
... so I cut off my power, shut down the afterburners and came in low on
Deak's trail. I was so close I thought I was going to fry my instruments. As it was I busted up the Skyhopper pretty bad. Uncle Owen was pretty upset.
He grounded me for the rest of the season. You should have been there... it was fantastic.

BIGGS
You ought to take it a little easy Luke. You may be the hottest bushpilot this side of Mos Eisley, but those little Skyhoppers are dangerous. Keep it up, and one day, whammo, you're going to be nothing more than a dark spot on the down side of a canyon wall.

LUKE
Look who's talking. Now that you've been around those giant starships you're beginning to sound like my uncle. You've gotten soft in the city...

BIGGS
I've missed you kid.

LUKE
Well, things haven't been the same since you left, Biggs. It's been so...quiet.

Biggs looks around then leans close to Luke.

BIGGS
Luke, I didn't come back just to say goodbye... I shouldn't tell
you this, but you're the only one I can trust... and if I don't come
back, I want somebody to know.

Luke's eyes are wide with Biggs' seriousness and loyalty.

LUKE
What are you talking about?

BIGGS
I made some frienRAB at the Academy. (he whispers)... when our frigate goes to one of the central systems, we're going to jump ship and join the Alliance...

Luke, amazed and stunned, is almost speechless.

LUKE
Join the Rebellion?! Are you kidding! How?

BIGGS
Quiet down will ya! You got a mouth bigger than a meteor crater!

LUKE
I'm sorry. I'm quiet. (he whispers) Listen how quiet I am. You can
barely hear me...

Biggs shakes his head angrily and then continues.

BIGGS
My friend has a friend on Bestine who might help us make contact.

LUKE
You're crazy! You could wander around forever trying to find them.

BIGGS
I know it's a long shot, but if I don't find them I'll do what I can on my own... It's what we always talked about. Luke, I'm not going to wait for the Empire to draft me into service. The Rebellion is spreading and I want to be on the
right side - the side I believe in.

LUKE
And I'm stuck here...

BIGGS
I thought you were going to the Academy next term. You'll get your chance to get off this rock.

LUKE
Not likely! I had to cancel my application. There has been a lot of unrest among the Sand People since you left... they've even raided the outskirts of Anchorhead.

BIGGS
Your uncle could hold off a whole colony of Sand People with one blaster.

LUKE
I know, but he's got enough vaporators going to make the place pay off. He
neeRAB me for just one more season. I can't leave him now.

BIGGS
I feel for you, Luke, you're going to have to learn what seems to be important or what really is important. What good is all your uncle's work if
it's taken over by the Empire?... You know they're starting to nationalize
commerce in the central systems...it won't be long before your uncle
is merely a tenant, slaving for the greater glory of the Empire.

LUKE
It couldn't happen here. You said it yourself. The Empire won't bother
with this rock.

BIGGS
Things always change.

LUKE
I wish I was going... Are you going to be around long?

BIGGS
No, I'm leaving in the morning...

LUKE
Then I guess I won't see you.

BIGGS
Maybe someday... I'll keep a lookout.

LUKE
Well, I'll be at the Academy next season... after that who knows. I won't be drafted into the Imperial Starfleet that's for sure... Take care of yourself, you'll always be the best friend I've got.

BIGGS
So long, Luke.

Biggs turns away from his old friend and heaRAB back towarRAB the power station.

Now I will swear that Ive seen this in the film, but the plot thickens because I certainly never saw the other two scenes and it makes no sense that this one would be in without the previous two....
