Star Wars Saga Blu-ray Collection: "Fall 2011"

I will add though, that mostly I don't mind any of his changes, including the aforementioned Anakin scene at the end of RotJ and also the music scene in the same film. The bit that did annoy me though was the audio on the X-Wing battle, and how it loses the fanfare. A real shame. I still love the redux though, and don't side with the fan hate really deep down. I like having both the redux and the original movies on DVD, and like I say, even if I had Blu-Ray I don't see myself buying them again for a long while now.

@Davonator, I like the look of that fan edit. I'd download it but I don't use torrents.

It hadn't been destroyed, but it wasn't in great shape,so they entrusted it to Lowry Digital(same company that did all the Bond remasters,to take a 4K digital copy of it,and ILM fixed all the other blemishes and other problems,so these will be top notch 1080p transfers

It is pathetic older fans still think Lucas cares whether they buy this release or not. He doesn't. Star Wars doesn't need the older fans anymore, and that was made pretty clear at Celebration V, purely by the amount of children there just for the prequel trilogy, The Clone Wars and the prequel games.

However, it seems like there will be a separate release of the original films, just it's not coming out in 2011. Lucas said something about the restoration taking a long time (IIRC it hasn't been restored since the laser disk release), and so the special editions take priority as they're already restored.

New deleted scenes will be awesome. They should utilise the branching technology, definitely!

Star Wars Saga Blu-ray Collection: "Fall 2011"

from wookiepedia changes to empire:

On September 21, 2004 the three original movies were finally released on DVD. There have been a few further minor changes to the film on this release

I'd agree - we'll get the blu-ray special editions with all new, never ever ever before seen deleted scenes. Then we'll get the blu-ray ultimate editions with even more never before seen deleted scenes

Then we'll get the collectors editions, ultimate collectors editions .. it'll never end ..

For me, personally, I've got the original, unedited theatrical versions of the original trilogy and that's good enough for me.

Really? Where'd you read that?

I thought that Lucas had stated before that the SEs were the definitive versions, that they were how he had always wanted them to be, & it was said or at least implied that the original non-Specials were not going to get any kind of decent treatment?

When was the laser disc release? I remember two VHS re-releases in the 90s of the original versions, one "Digitally Remastered" & then a later one "THX Digitally Remastered".

From Wikipedia regarding the use of the Laserdisc master for the OT Theatrical Edition DVRAB

"Controversy surrounded the release because the unaltered versions were from the 1993 non-anamorphic Laserdisc masters, and were not retransferred with modern video standarRAB."

A year or two ago there was talk of Lucas releasing all the films in 3D at the cinema. I guess that won't happen bit I wouldn't be surprised if the complete Star Wars saga is converted to Blu-ray 3D sooner or later (assuming enough people buy the new 3D tvs).

Jar Jar Binks in 3D. What a scary thought. :D

Regarding all things Star Wars... the new Star Wars live action tv series has been cancelled:

Just found that out. Bit of a shame but then again, I think Star Wars works best on the big screen, not the small one.

Well there's a huge difference between the Lucas who originally made Star Wars and the Lucas of today who thinks inserting scenes like this is a good idea.

But they are his Star Wars, so he is entitled to do as he wishes with them, however cringe worthy.

This thread reminRAB me that I need to get the original trilogy (un-enhanced thanks) on plain old DVD format. I once thought the graphical tinkering would be great... until I saw it.

i think the fact that he released the original "vanilla" versions of the original trilogy as extras on one of the special edition dvd's really said a lot about what he thought of them.

but then i also wouldn't put it past him to re-release the untouched originals on blu-ray somewhere down the line - claiming "fan demand" or something like that.

I know some/most of you refuse to believe it, but a lot of fans - especially younger ones - really want Lucas to go back and do another special edition.

In case you've never seen or heard about it, this bloke called Adywan basically went and did his own special edition of the original trilogy, adding new sound and visual effects, as well as music and a re-worked pace. There is a large number of fans who prefer his version over not only the 2004 special editions, but the originals too.

Judging by the above sequence alone, I completely agree Lucas should do one more take. Of all six films, though I imagine only the first four really need anything done to them. Fine, give the older fans their original versions remastered, but for everyone else and future fans, he really neeRAB to do a new 2011 edit.
