Most of the extended universe stories are worth a read. The three Timothy Zahn ones mentioned are amongst the best - the characters really behave as you've come to expect them too.

Of course there wasnt any jumping around alec guiness was too old, and david prowse had that massive suit on, how ridiculous would that look, neither guy was to sprightly, besides vader/anakin had gone into a lava pit and probably had most of his muscles fried off , hence the ventaltor.
Plus this old guy and a giant gimp flying around that would look ridiculous
