Star Wars : Original Unaltered Trilogy on DVD!!!

One of the main reason I am looking forward to this is because it will be the first time I'll be able to see the films in their orignal glory how everybody who sat there in 1977 etc etc saw them.

I believe so. That's also the reason why the Death Star is destroyed in both Star Wars and Return of the Jedi. Talk about peaking too soon. :D

Yes, it didn't even have 'A New Hope' attached to it, let alone 'Episode 4'. But around a year or two after the original cinema release (just before Empire Strikes Back) they added the subtitle. I think they totally redid the opening crawl actually. The text didn't change they just redid it because originally it was writing on the studio floor that the camera panned across!

As soon as Star Wars became a blockbuster they started saying about it all being pre-planned as a 9 part saga by Lucas.
I accepted it as the usual hype at the time, but maybe there was a grain of truth.
Nobody expected it to be a success ,thats why every major Hollywood studio turned it down before Fox.
And although I like the original trilogy I still cant fathom how the series appears to be more popular than Harry Potter or especially Indiana Jones and the Bond movies

Star Wars was so unpopular with the studios that one even tried breaking the original up into segments to be shown on Saturday morning kiRAB TV.

I personally rate Star Wars above Harry Potter but then again i never liked 'fantasy' although 'the force' as it were is part fantasy.

EVERYONE HOLD FIRE! Save yourselves some money and wait for the HD-DVD or Blue Ray editions that are bound to follow at some point!

From rumour that I believe to be true. The version going out is taken from the 1993 Laser Disc, which was touched up and used for the last VHS version. So still original, and how they looked when they were first made.

If you want to own the original unaltered SW trilogy, then this is it tbh. I can't see this version ever making it to HD-DVD.

And whats the point of waiting?
We could say that about every dvd release as we know many will get inevitable upgrades, but why bother with HDDVD or Blu-Ray now.
Releases of the Star Wars films are years away

I can see it now... All 9 films (1-6 CGI versions and 4-6 un-meddled with) in a huge 'George Wants A New Yacht' Boxset ;) :D

Think this pretty much guarantees more tinkering on the HD/Blueray release, as fans now have their original trilogy on DVD.

According to www.thedigitals.com the unaltered editions will be non-anamorphic editions taken from the prints for the laserdisc edition thirteen or so years ago.

After this I don't believe this will be the last time the original versions will be released. It is the 30th anniversary next year after all. Either way, if they're non-anamorphic then aren't worth buying to me.

Region 1 DVRAB usually have a choice of widescreen/fullscreen. Region 2 is normally widescreen only.

The cover for Star Wars is incorrect, it shouldn't really mention 'A New Hope' as it's not in the film's titles!

If they really are going to be non anamorphic over 5 years after Fox sold us their last non enhanced dvd then this is a ripoff.
But on the plus side, they won't be worth buying so thats a saving

No, it was actually because it was thought that putting Episode IV on the first movie in the series would confuse people.

As much as I love the unaltered versions of the original trilogy, I'm wary of buying it because I suspect a bigger, better boxset will come out later (damn Lucas's insatiable hunger for cash! ;) ).
