Star Wars or The Lord Of The Rings - Which one did you like better?

Really? *is shocked*
How does that happen? I mean, with all the TV exposure through the years that kind of surprises me...

Oh, goodness! You're a seasoned pro by now!

And I wholeheartedly agree - when I hear "Luke's Theme" I totally get chills and my eyes tear up. Nothing.like.it. *shivers*

Let me see if I can explain my opinion in a way that makes sense....

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a better made saga as a whole, than Star Wars, IMHO. LOTR honestly to me is probably the best piece of epic film making there is. Story-wise, effects-wise, character-wise, actor-wise, director-wise. Nearly everything was brilliance. It hits you on every emotional level. I love the movies. They make it into my top ten movie list easily.

However, Star Wars is my favorite of the two. I'm more attached to the SW characters and the SW universe than I am LOTR. I can watch the Star Wars movies over and over, while Lord of the Rings I can only watch when I get in that certain mood. I collect more of the memorabilia, read some of the novels, etc....with LOTR, I'm a fan of the films and have a few collectibles. So it's easy for me to say that Star Wars affects me more than Lord of the Rings, and I would have to consider myself a bigger fan of Star Wars than Lord of the Rings.

I adore both of them though, both are great fantasy sagas in their own right.

Star Wars, for sure. I've watched both SW and LOTR...

.

I just can't see all this talk about LOTR, doesn't mean much to me.

Funny enough a few hours ago I was watching LOTR on my tv and making caps of Episode I and Episode II on my laptop and I couldn't focus on just one movie.

The only reason I watched SW was to make captures but needless to say I really loved it. I'm a Sci Fi fan and I never could believe the lack of Star Wars in my fan resume. I dare not pick a movie because I haven't seen Episode IV, V, VI or III for that matter. ;)

....But if I was forced to choose right now I'd pick "Lord of the Ring" because I find it more sophisticated story-wise, and the movies never feel as long as they are. But SW while Epsisode I and II have lighting quick pace at the beginning they drag at the end.

I've been a fan of Star Wars since the first time I saw the original trilogy, twelve years ago. I read the Lord of Rings books a year or two before the movies came out and I liked them well enough but I never got into them until I saw the movies.
I think both sagas are wonderful examples of cinematic beauty and visually stunning but Lord of the Rings did not pull me in like Star Wars did. That's not to say that I don't love both sags, but Star Wars will always be number one in my heart.

5th! :thud:

After all these years I still get goosebumps when I hear John William's anthem :)

Lord of the Rings, but possibly only because I just saw the Star Wars movies for the first time a week ago.

They are both fantastic series. I grew up with the original Star Wars trilogy (I'm in my late 20's now) and think there is so much magic in those films, especially considering the chemistry of the cast. I watched the AFI Tribute to George Lucas last week and it was a treat seeing Mark, Carrie and Harrison together again. I am glad that they have all remained friends over the years.

Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy is the first set of movies to capture my imagination and make me fall in love with characters as much as the original SW trilogy. Since LOTR's movies were shot simultaneously, there is a consistency of tone obviously missing from Star Wars. (I also feel that The Empire Strikes Back is far superior to the other two installments, A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.) The LOTR trilogy is, in my mind, nearly flawless. A perfect example of commercial success and critical acclaim. I love everything about those films and applaud Peter Jackson.

To some degree, the Star Wars prequels tainted my view of the Star Wars saga. I like the actors, particularly, Ewan, Hayden and Natalie, but overall the prequels leave much to be desired. Fortunately, I liked ROTS a lot, but Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace are weak films.

So, in essence--I love Star Wars OT b/c it holds up so beautifully even now, thanks to memorable characters and good special effects--and because they keep me connected to my childhood. I love LOTR for those same reasons--great characters and excellent storytelling and acting.

Ok me and my cousin always have a debate on which series is more popular. He thinks that the LOTR films were better then Star Wars meanwhile I believe Star Wars is more popular then LOTR. So I want to know which one do you like more the Star Wars movies or The Lord Of The Rings movies? Please give a brief reason on which one you picked.
