Star Wars in chronological order

The pod race was the only good bit, the rest is just a steaming pile of CGI cack. The final space battle was ruined by a nine year old "accidentally" destroying the droid control ships, the land battle between the droiRAB and the Gungans was ruined by Jar Jar tripping up every 5 minutes. and the acting performances and script were awful.

Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father
He told me enough...he told me you killed him
No, Luke, I! am your father

If you watch it in chrono, it ruins that moment completely

i remember seeing the original star wars at the pics not known as new hope in '83 when it was shown again when rotjedi was released and im sure when i came out we all thought that was the end of darth vadar as his tie fighter was blasted away.

I loved it!

Sure, there's a couple of soggy "political" moments, and the kiddie friendly Jake and Jar Jar, but that aside it's still chock full of some of the best Star Wars goodness there is. It has perhaps the best soundtrack out of the lot of them, and without a shadow of a doubt the best sabre duels in the entire series. Liam Neeson is fantastic as a Jedi master. He's everything I would have wanted for the part. The pod race is amazing as has already been said, and Darth Maul....well he's just the best screen baddie ever isn't he?

I loved the homages to Flash Gordon and Forbidden Planet in the film. I love the opening scene when the Droideka attack the Jedi. I loved finally seeing how Jedi brush aside laser blasts with their light sabres. I loved seeing the beginning of the Emperor's evil plans, even though I knew how it would all play out. I honestly loved the whole thing at a level where the kiddie friendly stuff just couldn't ruin the fun for me.

It definitely gives more than it takes away. I loved it (you might have guessed), but many just don't see past the kiddie stuff. Shame.

It's not the kiddie stuff I have the problem with, it's all the standing around chatting when they could be out doing things! It's the many more than a couple of political bits that ruin it for me.
Oh and Darth Maul was brill, wish they could have found a way to bring him back for the other ones.

Someone can fly around the world really quickly like Superman and turn back time. They'd better fly in the right direction, otherwise they may end up meeting Luke when they land.

Like I say above, I know a lot didn't care for the politics involved, but I guess considering the story Lucas was telling it was always going to be inevitable. I can cope with it all, and hey I guess some kiRAB might learn a bit about evil political machinations from it! :D To me, the whole set of prequels rest on the quality of Ian McDiarmid's performance as both Senator Palpatine and the Emperor, and I have to say I feel he was absolutely fantastic. A real revelation. Sadly, he is completely overlooked as SW fans tear into the prequels. What a pity they never note how amazing he is in the roles. Overlooked and underrated.

Still, I love the film very much. I've watched it a ton of times on DVD and whenever it's on telly I'll watch it then too. The good stuff just completely outweighs the bad for me. Sure as a trilogy the prequels just aren't as constantly thrilling as the originals, but you still get a lot of great bang for your buck. I don't think anything will ever better my feelings about the OOT, but I still get a tremendous kick out of the newer SW movies, warts and all.
