Star Wars fans Lucas taking us for a ride?

The clone wars mini episodes that came out between AOTC and ROTS were great, much better than the films themselves. So I think this might be good.

No. it's far more complicated than that.

There was an animated series in 2003, and this movie and new CGI series have no connection to it.

The movie, being released almost simulteneously in the USA and Europe is an introduction to the new Clone Wars series.

the film is an intorduction to the upcoming clone wars cartoon tv show. it looks quite good actually

there is also going to be a live action tv show

and maybe star wars 6 films released in 3D

and after that he will probably rerererelease them as stick men drawings - i think thats the only thing he hasnt done so far isnt it?

The even more amusingly complex thing is that the CGI movie (released August 15th in the USA and UK) is not (as some are suggesting) the first few eps of the TV show stuck together, but was in fact made after the majority of the the CGI series was finished production, despite being is set before the show - and released months before the series debuts (on October 9th in the USA).

My head hurts.

I saw it this evening, and although I was very sceptical (being a long-suffering Star Wars widow!) I actually really enjoyed it.

The animation is superb, with the characters drawn in a semi-anime style, their lines being drawn rather sharply but not as much as the original Clone Wars tv series. The rest of the animation was incredibly lifelike, and in some scenes I forgot that I was watching an animated film (particularly the flying scenes in space).

It is clearly aimed at the young market (my children aged 6 and 8 sat entranced), but there is plenty for adults to enjoy too.

I didn't enjoy the Clone Wars tv series, but this was something rather more sophisticated.

Looking forward to it.

I am/was hoping that Lucas would invest longterm in the Clone Wars period but move away from the Jedi/Sith/Main characters aspect and focus on the actual Clones. A sci-fi Saving Private Ryan style film or Band of Brothers style series would be excellent.

A couple more years yet.

Read an interview with GL today. It explained how the CW film came about - GL saw the first couple of episodes they had completed for the TV series and was so impressed he decided it was good enough quality to be made into a film. But rather than just join 3 episodes together they made an extra 90 mins specifically as the film.

He also briefly mentioned the live action series, saying that it was going to be much, much darker and adult. He called it the sort of thing that could kill a franchise normally i.e. such a big shift in direction that for any other 'franchise' it would lose all the core fans. SounRAB great to me.
