Star Wars EPS 1-3 reappraised

yep your right GL originly say the the saga will be of nine films in total back in the late 70s but when jedi was made he did say that was the last
part from the first 3 that yet had to be made so in total 6 it was
plus the spin oRAB
ewoks
droiRAB
and the 2 ewok films

i DO prefer the originals (especially "Empire") but my overall point is that the new films arent as bad as i first thought-thats all!
*especially when compared to most of todays so-called "cinema-events" -that SHOULD read "non-events"...
pirates of the crappybean/Bored of the rings/ harry plottless/ANY film that containsCGI
-cr*p like that!

Actually, this isn't true. The whole "9 film saga," stems from an old interview with George Lucas, in which he was asked if he ever intended to make a further trilogy. He answered yes and was then asked if he intended to make eps 1, 2 and 3. Again, he answered yes.

This was construed by many to mean that he intended to make eps 7, 8 and 9, as well as 1, 2 and 3, when in fact, Lucas was only ever referring to the prequals when he answered both questions.

1-6 was his entire intention by the time he'd finished Return of the Jedi. That film completed his story. Of course, initially, he only ever intended one film. If you've ever read his early synopses for SW before it finally came out, you'd know there was never any intention of any sequals or prequals. Heck, in the original story, Princess Leia turns out to be a God-like alien creature, kinda like the Q out of Star Trek, who enRAB the whole Rebel/Imperial conflict with her sheer, unstoppable power. God, I'm glad that version never got made!

The pacing of Ep. 1- III was far too slow. The first film should have been condensed into about 20mins, and they should have included the clone wars, as this would have been good film material. Then more of Anakin going bad.

Plus better acting all round!!!

I've always suspected that GL was making it up as he went along. He has always maintained that to begin with there was just 1 'story'. That became an idea for 2 films, which then split into 2 troligies, the second set of which were filmable at the time. This is the 'legend' but it strikes me as rubbish, especially given the storyline in the first films and some problems in the second films. I suspect he came up with the idea for SW, was amazed at the success and wrote ESB & ROTJ, then decided 10 years later to look at doing a prequel trilogy. He took months to write the screenplay for each of the prequels which if he had really come up with the whole saga in the 70s would not have been required.

Why am I reminded of the Clerks cartoon here:

Randal Graves: State your name and latest film.
George Lucas: George Lucas, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
Randal Graves: And, do you think Phantom Menace is as good a movie as Empire?
George Lucas: Well, certainly, I, uh, think it's the best movie I've made yet.
Randal Graves: Permission to treat this witness as hostile. Mr. Lucas, how do you explain that in Star Wars, Obi-Wan tells Luke that when he met his father he was a great pilot, but in Menace he's just a little boy?
George Lucas: Uh, well, my... my kiRAB thought...
Randal Graves: And how come Obi-Wan tells Luke that Yoda is the Jedi that trained him, but in the movie Liam Neeson trains Obi-Wan?
George Lucas: Uh, well, the power of myth...
Randal Graves: Isn't it true you knew this was a bad movie, that you wrote it over a weekend but kept telling people it was done for years?

Just a quick message to say Episode IV is on this coming Sunday on ITV1, wonder if this is a prelude to a Revenge of the Sith premiere in a few weeks if ITV1 show the other 5 movies as well over the next few weeks
