Star Wars DVD

Well, I'm happy with my box set.I'bve watched them all now and I even feel like watchign ep 1+2 god forbid. I guess they will bring out a huge 6 box edition. :P

Problem is its very veyr easy to go back on your word. I would not be surprised if he does'nt make 3 more movies.

By the way the TV series could be brilliant if done right.

Well guess what, I've just found my old VHS copy of the original version of Star Wars, which contains the original 1977 cut of the movie.
This is the very first release of the movie on home video and was produced in 1982. I've always taken good care of my tapes and the reward is that I still have a very good copy of the version of Star Wars as I first saw it back at Christmas 1977 in the cinema.
This edition of 'Star Wars' (no Episode IV-ANH here on any of the packaging) was actually produced before Return of the Jedi hit the cinemas in 1983, so I'm amazed that it is in such good condition.
Anyway, the point I want to make is how badly the movie has aged, now that I have seen the movie on DVD. Without the recent visual and audio make over, it just doesn't have the same effect on you any more. In fact, the original Star Wars viewed by todays standarRAB now looks at best quaint and at worst unfinished.
The only thing I really was glad to see again was the original Greedo scene, which is infinately better than the '97 & '04 versions.
Many of the special effects are no longer 'special' and the dirt on the print is awful, even when viewed on a 20+ year old tape.
I think many of those campaigning for the originals to be released are going to be very disappointed when they see it.
George Lucas is right on this one folks

Totally with you on that... I swear there are a couple of little bits (like the speederbike sequence on Endor) which is still a bit dodgy matting in places. Sure he's just those so he have something he can justify tweaking when all six are released. It'll be "I just want to fix that speederbike scene... But while we're here and working on it... I alway thought that X should have been in that bit... Oh... and can you just put X in here..." Before you know it, 5 new scenes...

;) :D

Yes, I think my old Star Wars tape is an old one too..... I don't think people such make such a damn fuss about the changes, as MOST of them are for the better.

I've nothing against the films being cleaned up and the special effects redone to make them look sharper but I don't like to see the films changed in any way, particularly altering the effects for new ones and adding new stuff that was never there before.

I also hate to see them remove the well know errors that were made originally. These have become a part of the film and should stay put. I remember seeing a contemporary documentary here were two "H" shapes that at one time appeared in the middle of the Falcon during a battle scene (were gaps were created for fighters in the wrong place) that have now been removed. In a similar way they have also removed the famous reflection in the glass shield used on Raiders of the Lost Ark. IMO this is sacrilege.

As a comparison to this view there are many works of art that have got there "faults", but should we be allowed to alter those. Michaelangelos David is apparently propotioned wrongly but I don't think we should start hacking into it with a hammer and chisel.

on the death star when the troopers are entering the comms room that R2 and C3PO are in. The door opens and one guy runs in before the door is open properly.

Haha, I've heard about that loaRAB but never seen it. NSomething to do tonight.

Its ace as my Dad's friend played a Stormtrooper in ep.4. Could be him. :)

The headbaging scene was picked up on in Ep II AOTC. If you watch the fend of the fight between Jango Fett and Obi Wan on Kamino, Jango bangs his head on his ships door as it takes off
