Star Wars 7, 8 and 9

Why? If you're going to bump, have a reason for bumping, add something to the debate, don't just turn up with your badly spelt name and type "bump."

I actually thought the prequel trilogy was pretty good but i don't think anymore should be made it should just be left now.

I've said it before but I'm pretty sure we'll see 7, 8, and 9 eventually.

Lucas is now adament that the Star Wars story was a six parter and apparetly gets really pissed off when people keep asking him about future sequals.

He dosen't make it any easier for himself though by dropping lines in iterviews like 'Oh wait...that dosn't happen till episode VII..oops!' or ' I planed Star Wars as a nine part story'.

Now though he says that there isn't anymore of the story to tell, and furthermore he would not allow anyone eles to take on the franchise.......and so in typical Lucas stlye we have the forthcoming 'Star Wars TV show (ahem, more of the Star Wars stories to tell, and ahem, not done by Lucas hmself).

So yep, I'm pretty sure we'll see those sequals eventally, where we can look forward to an aginging Mark Hamill mincing around with his lightsaber once more. God help us.

To be fair on GL (and got knows after the disappointment why I need to be "fair" to him), it's been more than 20 years since he said anything remotely along those lines.
Again, Lucas said there is no story beyond the end of Jedi. Since the TV show is set between Eps 3 and 4, there was truth to that.... from a certain point of view. BTW, where is your quote about "no-one else taking the franchise" from?I'll eat my hat (and post pics) if we see any live action films or TV set after Jedi in Lucas's lifetime.

GL is forever changing his mind on stuff, but in this instance I'm pretty sure he simply doesn't have it in him.

Im sorry but he made a mess of 1-3 because of a bad ,bad script ,screenplay and over use of cgi ,it looked and felt like a cartoon .

Overuse of cgi has ruined 21 st century films .

Interesting. Someone should put it to him that the current Clone Wars series isnt core Star Wars story either, yet it hasnt stoped them from making a series out of it, so that reason in itself is no justification for not making eps 7-9...although I cant see it happeining.

When Star Wars was first released in 1977 a lot of people then also thought there was too many special effects and that it felt like a game of "space invaders" Critics also moaned about the poor script and dodgy acting. Some things never change, I guess? ;)

Am I the only person in the world that enjoyed the Prequels? I thought Revenge of the Sith was as good as any of the original movies honestly?

Anyway, in answer to the question, there will be no 7-9. Darth vader dies at the end of Episode 6 and thats the end of the story.

No, you're not alone. I prefer the originals, but then I saw them when I was between the ages of 8 and 14 so it was the right time for me. I can't say I'm even too bothered about Jar Jar Binks.

It's always seemed to me that the biggests complainers were those who had highly unrealistic expectations and forgot they weren't kiRAB anyway, even though they continue to try and act like it.

The people who shout the loudest about the prequels are the same type of people who bang on about how Russell T Davies is ruining Doctor Who.

The writing in Star Wars has always been appalling (Alec Guinness I think said he'd never seen such gibberish in a script) but it works for kiRAB, and I'm sure the new ones do too.

For anyone that grew up with the originals the prequels were always going to be wrong, but I'm sure kiRAB today love them.

All that, however, doesn't stop Hayden Christiansen being the worst possible choice for Anakin.

As for the CGI, there's no excuse for it all looking that bad and tacked on, Jackson managed to create extensive real-looking CGI in Lord of the Rings, and there's simply no comparison when it comes to Jar Jar Binks and Gollum, truly polar examples of what can be done with a CGI character.

Even if there was a 7-9 planned, I wouldn't want them to do it. Unless Peter Jackson produced it ;)

Since Clone Wars centres around (m)Anakin, it kinda is in the context he's talking about there. Anyway, given that the interview was during the promotion circuit for The Clone Wars, I'd imagine that it was in exactly that context. This one was in Main. I guess the PTB moved it to the correct section.

well I certainly didn't have high expectations , I'd seen the Ewok movies so I knew what depths Lucas was capable of .

The originals had great characters , people loved Luke , Han , Leia , R2 , 3po , Chewie etc. the prequels had sh*t characters , no charm or charisma , bad casting and a dreadful romance . and JJB

At risk of pushing this further off topic, I have to say I love the prequels. Any of the criticisms that people level at them were exactly what my parents said about the originals in the 70's and 80's. Poor acting, no charm, pointless puppets...I've heard it all before.

As I still enjoy Star Wars a great deal, I find the prequels give much more than they take away. Many complain about Jar Jar, but to be honest everything anyone would ever want to say about that character has already been said, and even then he doesn't spoil the SW atmosphere one bit. What about the phenomenal lightsabre battles, what about Darth Maul? What about Liam Neeson's brilliant Qui-Gonn? What about Ian McDiarmid's excellent performance throughout the whole saga? What about the fact that John Williams wrote perhaps his finest film score ever in Duel of the Fates?

I could write a huge list about all the things I got a kick out of in the prequels, but only one or two things that threatened to spoil it. Count me as a massive fan of the whole thing, and yes old enough to know better!

The whole "Lucas always planned 9 films" line is a known media mistake. Lucas clarified this way back in the 80s. He was being interviewed after REturn of the Jedi had been released and was asked if he intended to make another Star Wars trilogy at some point. He said yes. They then asked if he intended to make epsiodes 1-3 and he, again, said yes.

The idiot reporter then put out that Lucas intended to make a total of 9 SW films; 3 sequals and 3 prequals. Lucas later corrected his error, stating that he was referring to episodes 1-3 when answering both questions and the reporter only assumed he was referring to two separate trilogies. Unfortunately, he didn't say it son enough to stop the notion filtering out into the worldwide SW fanbase and its perpetuated ever since. But episodes 7-9 were never actually under consideration.

Remember that this is the same media who saw Lucas was making a new film called "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and saw Harrison Ford's name attached to it, so promptly announced that it was the name of the next Star Wars film.

But then I expect we will actually see more Star Wars movies in the future, regardless. Although I also suspect it will not be until the Great Beard has left us all.

... and goes to meet the other Great Beard. I can just picture the scene:

"Hey, great place you've got here. Love all these practical effects. But you know, you could do all this stuff digitally!"

:D
