Star Trek

I totally loved this film. Must have been really difficult to cast the characters as the originals are so iconic now but they did a really good job...especially Karl Urban as McCoy. True there are some plot problems but the sheer pace, look and panache of the film helps overcome that to a degree. Way better than the last Trek movie 'Nemisis' btw, but then again would be hard not to be:)

One question though: Is the Spock/Uhuru thing new to this movie as I don't recall there ever being any feelings between them before?
 
Nice to hear the good reviews. I am considering going to see it, but would an aging fan such as myself who's first experience of ST was the original series (in black and white!) and who has enjoyed everything except RAB9 enjoy this film do you think?
 
No ! ! And why not just ask the question without using the word " honestly" as if it was so obvious ? So far as my hazy recollection goes the "timeline"thing was over with by the end of the film but Vulcan still did not exist.

Maybe from one showing I didn't get it but it wasn't as obvious as you are suggesting
 
Loved, loved, LOVED this film.

I went to the cinema yesterday very reluctantly to see it. I even said to my partner "On a scale of one to ten how bored is this going to make me?" Turns out, minus a million. I was hooked from the beginning.

Just totally fantastic.
 
LOL, I thought Nemesis was rubbish the first time I watched it, too, but I quite enjoyed it the second time.

Regarding the Spock/Uhuru "thing", well I haven't see this movie, but if you are referring to a romantic type "thing" then there wasn't much, but I do seem to remember an episode of the original series where something occurred, and I'm fairly sure in one of the movies there was something alluded to.

Mind you, since Uhuru and Spock worked quite closely together in 3 series and several films, it would be very difficult for the writers to resist alluding to something. They are only human after all, and Spock half is, too.

spock and uhura snog twice, and kirk tries to 'get it on' with uhura but gets nowhere.
they (spock and uhura) are definitely a 'couple' by the end of the film.
I thought Kirk's dad (Kim from Home and away :D) was really good, and looked more like Shatner than Pine did :)
 
Absolutely not the beginning is a perfect place to start.

However I have to agree that half the fun is watching different actors in roles you have grown to love over the years and I can safely say that none of them failed.

I really can't get over how much I have enjoyed this film
 
I thought it was really good. I was a little disappointed because it's been getting awesome comments so far, so was perhaps expecting too much.... but it was still really good. And I don't particularly like Star Trek (although I do generally like sci fi).



My friend went to an IMAX and said it has to be seen at an IMAX. My nearest is too far away from me though. :(
 
Im exactly the same. Since I bought it in November I've watched it 4 times and I could watch it all over again. Very rare for me to watch a film more than once in a short space of time.
 
Something that bothers me is that of all the characters, Kirk has been effected the most by the change in the timeline. In the original timeline he grew up normally. In the revised timeline his father was killed when he was born and he grew up as a bit of a misfit with a single parent. Wouldn't something like that have a profound effect on Kirk's personality and make him a totally different person from Shatner's Kirk? Instead we see an admittedly very good portrayal of exectly the same character.
 
Woo party in Kirk's quarters! :D And his old man weren't that bad on the eye either...:o

*ahem*

Anyway..

After reading someone cite Back to the Future 2 and its explanation of alternate time lines, I wonder, how come Young Spock doesn't pass out when he sees his future self a la Jennifer McFly? :p
