I thought it was part of the whole Kirk v. Spock rivalry storyline rather than something which would have been seen in the other films and TV episodes. But I'm not a major Star Trek fan - I went to see it because it's had great reviews, which it certainly lived up to.

By the way, hats off to the ShepherRAB Bush Vue for their sensitive handling of the house lights. Not only did they switch them on as soon as the end titles began, they actually left them on for the first five minutes of the film!
 
Saw this yesterday at a digital screening. Excellent film. Very reverential towarRAB the original series but still an exciting modern style film with great effects and a decent storyline. I think the opening sequence was one of the best I've seen for a while and actually quite emotional.

I also came out of the cinema desperately wanting to see a sequel, and I haven't felt like that for a long time.
 
In Spock's defence, Romulus would have been saved if the Romulans & Vulcans had actually listened to his warnings... have a read of the prequel comic "Star Trek Countdown". And it's not like he handed the weapon to Nero...




Hah, yeah, that was one minor sticking point of mine... three year Cadet > First Officer > Captain. I think he missed a few ranks out!
 
Went to see this with the gf on Monday night.I'm not that much of a fan of ST although i don't mind STNG.The gf is more of a fan of ST.I really enjoyed the film.I thought the characters were great & i just liked the way it all came together.My gf said that the actor that played Bones was really good with some of the mannerisms that the character had from the original series.

1 scene that got a cheer & some applause in the cinema was when Kirk & Sulu are falling towarRAB the ground & the Enterprise is trying to get a lock on them.At the last minute the Enterprise manages to beam them aboard.You know both characters aren't going to die.But it's the build up in the scene of the Enterprise trying to get a lock on them that makes it work.
 
I KNOW :D Haha , i had to imdb the guy as soon as i got home cos i KNEW, i saw him from somewhere but could not figure it out. What a break for him.
 
i thought it was great, well acted and great storyline very clever i thought.
seeeing the trailors i thought the young kirk was just a little too young but no once the action starts you start to believe he is kirk
well worth seeing
 
iI am seeing it again on Friday partly because the first 25 mins of the film was spoilt for me because 3 people forgot what time the film started and i was up and down like a flaming yoyo in my seat trying to accomodate these people!!:mad:
 
I totally agree with Robston. I also walked out wanting to see the sequel, I had a sillyl grin on my face all the way through and loved every minute of it. We watched it on the IMAX big screen, it was worth every penny.

I might go watch it again a few weeks :D
 
Indeed.

Not liking the film is one thing but to actively let it spoil your enjoyment of previous Star Trek franchise installments is just plain daft.

Like those saddoes who keep bleating on about Russell T. Davies raping their childhooRAB. :rolleyes:
 
Compared to the skin stretching hippy bullcrap of Insurrection and Generations.:eek:

Frakes was probably upset he didn't get to direct it, Nemesis was very dark and well paced, surprised by the animosity towarRAB it here.

I enjoyed this but ripping off a previous Trek film to such a degree is lame.

Eh? So you're saying Spock wanted to put Kirk in the path of the implosion where there's a chance he could be killed by debris?
It makes no sense at all really. Kirk gets dumped on the same planet as Old Spock who's lurking less than half a mile away.
That's a massive coincidence that could only be explained perhaps by Old Spock planting the idea in Young Spocks brain telepathically or via time travel.
Sadly there was no explanation given at all for this. Maybe the deleted scenes will fill in the blanks.

The bridge is most definately in the top section of the primary hull.

A couple more departures from 'canon' for the reboot were the fact we saw the Enterprise under construction on earth and also there was a call for an 'away team' and not a 'landing party'. But who cares? Not me anyway.
I've been a Trek fan since Kirk, Spock and co. came to our screens in the early 70's and I've enjoyed it all since then (yes even Enterprise - poor Porthos, did anyone else notice the nod to him?) and I loved this film.

Haha, yeah I noticed the mention of away team instead of landing party. Didn't bother me, but I feel like such a nerd knowing its wrong!

And Porthos! Had me in stitches that!
 
5/5 but weakest link was unfortunately Simon Pegg's Scotty. Too 'zany' as someone else put it.

Loved the bit with Enterprise coming out of warp firing all lasers/photon torpedos.
