Star Trek Opens to $76.5 Million!

Nemesis didn't even take that during it's entire international run - only made $67 million worldwide on a budget of $60 million i.e. not very good.
 
I'm sad Wolverine beat Trek (Wolverine doesn't look like anything all that special to me) but over $70m during opening weekend surely means there has to be a sequel now?
 
Currently 50k people downloading the Star Trek Torrent. x $10 ticket = $500k. Yeah piracy is killing the industry. (I have been the cinema and downloaded the copy)
 
Anyone downloading this film - at least for the first viewing anyway - is an idiot. No way in hell could you get the same out of a piss-poor handycam-filmed copy on a PC, as you could watching it on the big screen.

Where's the point in watching a film with this sort of spectacle and ruining all the "wow" by watching a blurry, jerky copy at a lower res than old VHS long play recordings?
 
Agree completely mate, its an absolute waste watchin it on your PC. I was being sarcastic earlier. (the piracy comment i mean. i didnt make it obvious enough) The copy online is quite good though for a cam
 
Wolverine was a absolutely shite film but it appealed more.

Star Trek should have done better but.... its Star Trek- people are still turned away because of its label. Although this film really bursts the geekfest bubble its still Star Trek.

Also I found not enough fuss was made about what is a great Summer film in general. Compared to to Wolverine and others like Terminator Star Trek has had very little airtime and promotion on TV- The only thing I saw was Simon Pegg on Friday Night With Johnathan Ross.

Wolverine had promotion on all day E4 MTV and all the channels Even now Terminator, Transformers and Wolverine have Youtube viRAB on most watched. - Star Trek has had nothing in comparison to draw the general public in as it deserves.

Comparing like for like Star Trek should have beaten Wolverine two fold. Its still the image problem.
 
Movie bosses are monitoring the popular torrents sites - be warned. As soon as a big movie is open they monitor and log.
 
I was gutted about that. I'd been sure we'd be pulling the stops out to get some good interviews and promotional footage with Quinto and Pine but I don't think there was anything? If there was, I missed it. I don't think there's even been any behind-the-scenes specials and the premiere in London last month was barely mentioned in the media.

I'm really shocked at how little ST has been promoted here. I thought it's big screen reboot would be a huge deal and that everyone would be buzzing but in terms of media coverage in the UK, it's been barely a blip on the rader. But it's like you say...the image. I guess the majority of society just cannot get past the "Trekkie" thing, and that's so sad. They are missing out on a fantastic action movie.
